Ibiza 1.2 ST Ecomotive - P242B - Exhaust Temp Sensor question

Hi,
I have booked my Ibiza 1.2 ST tdi in for a diagnostic after getting a P242B code and the engine light is on.
Light came on in the morning just after a cold/damp start and has stayed on.

From enigine-codes.com

P242B - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 Sensor 3
Possible causes
  • Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) Bank 1 Sensor 3
  • Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 3 harness is open or shorted
  • Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 3 circuit poor electrical connection
  • Exhaust leaks
  • Excessive particulate matter buildup on sensor
Car is driving OK with no limp mode.

Anyone here had a similar code / behaviour ?
Would you think it is ok to drive short distances (50 mile trip) until it is fixed ?

I suspect the DPF regeneration will not activate with this error.

I am hoping it is a simple fault to rectify although I think replacing the sensor is difficult and >£250 ...

Maybe a similar problem to what I had. Best advice was to not drive around as the DPF wont regen whilst it has this problem (advice from mechanic). Cost me about £300 as the sensors are a bit of a pain to get to.

I had this problem last week happened after a bout of bad weather (primarily wet)
My local garage charged £100 for the sensor and it took them half an hour to fit.

Again car was driving fine. It fixed the issue although 200 miles later I've now got P0405 showing intermittently.. My suspicion is either the driving I did while the glow plug / engine light was on was a bad idea or there is an overarching electrical problem that happened driving in the wet. Car runs absolutely fine.

Had the sensor replaced
There are two linked to the same error code...always seems to be the more expensive one that needs replacing. Just under £300.
Drives fine now
P0405 could be a number of things relating to the EGR from a bad connection to a failed valve.....had this before.
If you have one of the EA189 diesel engines that has had the emissions update less than two years ago the cost may be covered by the dealer. If you are not sure they have a web page where you can enter the vin to check
Good luck !

I do have one of the old dieselgate cars and had the update! Did you the EGR this replaced? How does the car run now? I'm currently sat on 90,000 miles and up until now the car has run more or less as expected.
