hello again guys and girls,
im playing with my exhaust system and i need to get another catalytic converter, i have a ibiza 95' 'N' 1.4 8v ABD engine. can i get a cat off any car or will they all be different in which case will cats off engine code ABD only fit?
i dont want a new one as theres no point since im only messing about wth it but i do need another one and its going to be getting expensive if i can only use ABD engine coded ones.

thanks :)

ps: if anyone has one that will fit thats unwanted i will take it off your hands for a small fee ;)

ive got an idea in my head that if i get a cheap cat i could jab a hole straight fthrough the filter elements inside it and then have a sort of de cat....
what...?
im a poor student with an idea.

just thought it would be worth a go, then if i ever got a road side check or whatever it would look standard and then i could put my old one back on for an MOT.

thought if i get one cheap enough itd be worth a go just to see what it would be like

it may work, but the exhaust will make a real tinny noise, i once busted my cat up in another car but going over a jump, it clogged it up, so i thumped the insides of it out for a few days until i got a new one.

I would either do it properly or not at all, and tbh, its not going to make that much difference on a 1.4 :)

They're not massively expensive new.

I went down this route recently when I was told I needed to replace the cat on my 16V Cupra Sport. I could get an OEM equivalent cat, centre section and back box for less than £300, and from what I remember the cat could be got for about £200.

I would imagine that a cat for a 1.4 will be cheaper as there would be less volume of exhaust gases, therefore less requirement for surface area and catalytic material...

In fact a Bosal Cat for the ABD engine is £157 + delivery: http://www.exhaustshack.co.uk/

You might well find it cheaper just try 'catalytic+converter+seat+ibiza' on google...

yea to some people that may seem cheapbut as it is just an experiment which once done might just get thrown out cos lets be honest if it doesnt work then its going in the bin.

it might not work which is why i thought id give it a try, i dont know anyone whos done it and if i can get a cheap cat(or now whole manifold and cat) could have a bit of a play.

first car and everything you gotta play around with it

I can't honestly see that it's worth the expense or hassle, unless you can get one almost free...

Check e-bay and local papers for breakers - they might do you a deal on one...
