Ok,
ive been, regsitered, posted, and waited, on saxo sports and no one replied so i thought i may as well try you guys.

.....please dont say bin it either ;)

Its a 1.1 SX 'R' Plate Saxo but it has real difficulty starting and maintaining revs when its being driven.

To best describe how you have to start it to help with some sort of diagnosis:
You have to turn the key as usual but then blip the throttle to help it start, it starts unwillingly and sounds ill, then you have to keep the throttle down slightly so that the revs dont drop to 0 and stall

Her parents are getting on at her about it so thought id see if i could help
Thanks in advance good people of SCN ;)

sounds like an ignition thing to me... i assume the 1.1 is single point fuel injection and has a single ignition coil... worth looking at the coil and the HT leads and plugs etc

this is exactly the same issue I had with my Punto, it really struggled to start, my issue was solved by getting all spark plugs replaced and a new battery :D.. dunno if it will be same on Saxo :(

Oh... I also had the battery checked 3 times, and it tested OK... but as soon as I changed the battery it ticks over fine

Hope that helps

Don't think they were fuel injected back then were then?

So I go with the people who say Choke/idle control valve is blocked/bunged up with crap.

Also may need to have new fuel filter in place.

Any good back street garage should be able to give the valve/carb a quick blasting of air to clear it up and make idle running ok again.
