Intercooler Water Spray

Would this be benificial, I'm looking to run a seperate feed or pipes to my 2 SMIC on the LCR.

I plan on either changing the route from the water bottle for trackdays/quarter or even just normal driving days to washer jets from a mk4 golf ones pointing at the intercoolers, or was toying with the idea of putting a secondary water bottle in the boot with the pipes running under the car to the intercoolers with a switch on the dash for it!

Does anybody have any views of this or any clue if it would be worth it.

Interesting mate, might be worth a try. Imprezza P1's and probably other hight end ones have it as standard.

Nice little project for the weekend. Won't cost you too much I doubt!

Think i'm gonna give it a try, theres a 12v power suply in the boot so that should be enough to run a pump, just need to run a switch and pipes to the intercoolers, you think under car is the best place for the water pipes?

Unless there is room along the edge of the footwells under the carpet? At least the pipes aren't exposed to the elements there. Just depends how many bulkhead holes you are willing to drill and grommet!!!

The only trouble is, the squirters may not stay primed and from the bottle in the back, it my take a while for water to get to the Intercoolers. You might see some steam that will show that they have squirted but that could be Air Con Gas!!!!!!!

no mate, been workin like a beast!
misses was at seat today to get the radio coded cause i had the battery off but they said it would have to be booked in again to check what the fault was, i was playing on the whole quote forn the work to see if they would list parts!

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the spray then. Can't hurt on hot days.

Could too much cold water crack something with the sudded temp change?

na, it wont be that hot and the water wont be that cold so should be fine, its more of a mist with those washers, so better coverage and should evapourate(spelling) quickly without leaving and water or damage!

Also could you not cut the washer jets and put a tap in so that you can switch between the 2 so on a hot track day you can just spray on to your intercoolers and not the window or both or just windows.

it'll prob be fine for an amp, all you'll have to do is run the phonos,

tap might be an idea, but i'll maybe try it! good plan mate!

If your gonna have a go at this, just bear in mind, the forward motion of the car as they are spraying. I should think you want an even all over coverage on the I/C. If you mount it directly on top, or at the bottom the forward motion of the car, and the air being funneled over the IC will push the spray into a short jet, just leaving the washer so will only cover a tiny part of it. I should think it would make sence to mount it infront, spraying at towards the IC, so it covers it better. And just remember, what you see stationary, is definately not what happens when your moving. Also, i would say to vent the rear of the I/C with the modified arch liner you can do, as this will help the warmer ambient air to escape the IC. Very cheep, and very easy to do. I think the waher jets form a VW would be better as they are the fan type, and would cover a larger area, but my understanding of it is, the finer the mist, the better, you dont want to drown the IC, just cool it. I was thinking of using sprayer nozzles ( the type used for commercially applying herbicides etc) as they are run onder a 1 bar system, and come in a variety of spray droplet sizses, and patterns. Unless someone makes specific nozzlees for this. ( i know subaru do) Nice idea thou, and would be interesting to see logs with and without on a warm day, to see if it has any benifit on inlet temps.

Depends on how serious he is, if he wants a cheap and cheerful system, or go the whole hog, and punch into the inlet pipe, with the aguamist kit.

The 3rd jet would fill the gap depending how fast. but i deffinatly recommend the splitter as not only would spraying your window be annoying but it would loose preassure.

Mount the jest as far in front near the airflow as the air coming through the grill should be designed to flow evenly so if you can saturate the air with water miss it will cover evenly. The 3rd jet may be needed to fill the middle gap if the water lands to fast.

Also get yourself a water filter or you will be building limescale maybe only use purified water in the tank
