Pretty much this time last week, my engine management light came on my ibiza cupra, so i took it into my local Seat garage to find out what the problem was. 10 mins later, the bloke came back saying it was my secondary air flow sensor and that it is fixed and shouldnt come back on.

Well, last night when i was out, the light came back on again. So went back down to the Seat garage to get them to have another look at it and explain that i came in last week.

20 mins later, the bloke came back with a printout saying that the secondary air flow sensor was playing up again. The printout also said incorrect air flow, which he said meant that the amount of air gonig into the sensor isnt what it should be which is why the light came on. He said this is because i have changed some of my hoses to samco hoses which are changing the amount of air flow going to the sensor.

He then said the best thing to do is to put the original hoses back on and see if it still happens. Problem being, i dont have the original hoses, threw them away when i changed them.

To me, this doesnt sound right. What do others think? The reason being other people have changed their hoses on their engines on here and i havent heard of or seen anyone experiencing the same problem. If im wrong then fair enough, will buy the original hoses and put them back on.

Cheers

have you enlarged the bore of the hoses from origonal standard hoses. have you got the wrong engine code silicon hosing kit fitted to your car  . ive been searching for samco hosing (or any silicone hosing) for my ibiza cupra mk4 since day 1! and can only find it for the older 1.8 turbos with (ayp) engine code. where bouts did you purchace the hoses?

i went down to my local tuning shop a few weeks ago and asked them to tell me what size hoses i need, they told me and brought the hoses. isnt an actual fitting kit specifically for the ibiza

that did cross my mind that the hoses might be a different size

i wouldnt of thought that enlarging the bore slightly would cause a problem! have you got pics of you engine bay so i can see wot the pipes look like? had the engine light come on strait after getting the samco fitted?

these little hoses wouldnt make ne diffrence i was thinking more of the larger pipes (ie. innlet manifold pipe and induction hose!.) there are so many sensors on the mk4 cupra so ne diffrence and it dont like it! but personaly i cant see these pipes being changed a problem.

i think it is located on the induction pipe at the rear of the engine (christmas tree pipe) between the re-circulating valve and top of turbo but i could be wrong

Not sure if this is related, but I had a completely unmodded Skoda Octavia, and I had engine management come on twice. They eventually traced this to a faulty inlet manifold (it had a hairline crack).

This cost me £650 to repair.

ello m8, mine did this too, (SECONDARY AIR INTAKE, INCORRECT FLOW DETECTED) after lookin at my engine bay, where i put me samco vacuum pipes on, the one that runs from the kombi valve ( the one thats near the dump valve) i had cable tied the join too hard and split the hose! i bet money on thats your problem m8, just cut a bit off and re-join it! :D

cheers for the info guys. much appreciated

will have a look at the hoses over the weekend and see if i can find anything. i dont have any of the hoses cable tied, do you think this would have caused the problem?

time for a MINI adventure
when I got my dealer to fit my induction kit to the polo they said that they'd heard of problems with engines as they suck too much air in! Read this posting and thought back, don't know if it's connected with your problem or not? Thought I'd mention it anyways, lol
Probably talking a load of bollox but hey ho :cartman:

vac pipes need to be on tight too

if they are loose the pipe can suck from the atmosphere and not the device it is plugged into

if the device in question is a diaphram you could end up with the engine management light on
