HU cables won't fit - Solutions?

Ok, part 5 of the leon being a b1tch to install.

I've got an old Alpine HU and all the sockets for the phono's/ariel etc etc are placed on cables hanging out the back of the HU istelf (as opposed to fixed in the back). Meaning, I can't fit the F**KING HEAD UNIT IN THE DASH. Surely someone must of had this issue before. Is there anything I can do to sort this? Remove plastic from the near by trim or something?

I don't really fancy forking out £300 for a new head unit just because of a cable issue :(

Everybody has had this issue mate. But the only solution is patience and keep trying.

One tip I will give you, is remove the dash fascia... the entire surround that covers the cup holder area right down to the coin tray. Remove that and you'll find it easier to see and get access to areas where you can hide the cables.

Also, try and tape up as many cables as you can nice and tight. For instance, get some insulation tape or heat shrink and bundle all the wires from the power part of the ISO block together. Then do the same for the speaker cables. Then the same for any ISO leads (phono inputs) that aren't being used. DONT TAPE POWER AND SPEAKER CABLE TOGETHER THOUGH or you'll introduce unwanted noises to your system.

But do try and tape them up a bit as it creates physically less bulk to hide.

Good luck! :)

I had this when fitting mine last week ! Millions of cables !!

I eventually pushed them all to the right hand saide (gap just above the climate control), then as I pushed in the HU, I made them turn back on themselves (live a backward "C" shape, and then the HU clicked in to place - albeit very snugly !!)

Done it (with brute force)! Thanks guys!

2 days, and only half the install done. Shall do the speakers and cables to boot next weekend. Which means the head unit will have to come out again, and I'll probably need to rip the dash out.

2 Questions:
1)Has anyone got a link to the centre dash removal.
2) I don't have the various bits and pieces for my alpine HU anymore (my fault, and it screwed in directly to the dash of my previous car), meaning it's not actually secure in the dash, and there's a gap in bewteen the facia adapter and where the HU sits (it looks arse). Short of phoning Alpine directly, does anyone know where I might source these particular parts

I did buy a HU cage from halfords but it turned out it appeared to be a generic thing to allow you to fit a HU in a blank hole. :(

Thanks for all the help. Couldn't of got so far without the forum :)

Just boshed on Ebay. Found a cage. Having difficulty with the trim ring though. I'm assuming on the leon the standard alpine cage will be fit in the dash ok?
