How often should I change my fuel filter (TFSI)??

Hi guys, this is my first post so I hope it's not a stupid one but I was reading my service manual last night and there doesn't appear to be anything in the service schedule about when to change the fuel filter other than on the diesel engines....

Am I missing something? Should I change the fuel filter and how often? I'm not getting great MPG and wondered if this might help?

Ta.

Thanks Mike. Mines at 56k already so I think I'll get it done at the next service. Interested to see if it makes any difference to MPG..

Welcome to the site :)

this is a strange 1 on the tfsi , i changed my pressure sensor on my fuel pump the other day and the old one was full of crap from the fuel lines , im thinking of changing my filter as well , a filter can only filter so much then it reaches the end of its life , so im puzzeled as to why there is no service interval stated.

im sure on the yank forums they have a servie interval which iirc is either 50 or 60 k

i have heard of people changing them at around 40k and having a lot of what they describe as rusty crap coming out of the old filter , so i think its very worthwhile changing it considering how cheap they are.

Donnyboy,

Jack up the car, look in at the rear driver side wheel, in front of the wheel up behind the sill you will see the fuel filter at the bottom of the tank.

A few clips on the fuel lines where they enter and exit the filter, which you pinch to release, then a screw which holds the filter in a carrier bracket assembly. Loosen these and take it out, its a wee bit fiddly but its simple enough, keep a rag/small container handy for drips of petrol which will be present lol
