How do I test if my bi-xenon headlamp AFS function is working?

Following my other post about an "No bend lighting (AFS) function" warning that I now seem to have cleared (see this post), I'm not convinced that my AFS is actually working so how do I test it?

I am getting no warning lights in the dash and no warning messages in the MFD but when I turn on the ignition with the lights on I don't see the light units moving left or right (i.e. no kind of AFS self-test which I thought was supposed to happen) and if I turn the steering wheel left or right while stationary the lights don't move left or right either. Are they supposed to? I've never bothered checking before so I'm not sure if it's always been like this since I bought the car.

With the ignition and lights off, if I take the back caps off and manually push the headlight aim motors either fully left or right, they do automatically centre themselves again when the ignition is switched back on so the motors themselves are obviously working OK.

When you start the car it should do the self check, mine does this every time I start the car when it's dark with the lights on Auto. It's very obvious if you are near a wall or it's dark where the car is parked.

The AFS will not work when station or going slowly, I'm not exactly sure the speed at which it does start to work but I would suspect approx 10-15mph.

I've found that it's easier seeing the AFS working directly after going round a tight corner when you bring your steering wheel quickly back to centre. The AFS is just ever so slightly slower than the wheels (well that's how it seems to me) and so you can see the lights come back to the centre position.

Thanks. I need to check mine in the dark (does that actually make any difference?) and also while driving above 15mph but there is certainly no obvious self-check movement going on in the daylight when I turn the ignition on either with or without the lights switched on (other than to re-centre the lights if I've manually pushed them out of centre first).

I just found this but it's a pre-facelift so I'm not sure if there is any difference with the facelift versions...

I also found this for a Touareg...

My lights certainly don't do either of the above when switching on the ignition or the lights.

However, if my AFS wasn't working correctly then wouldn't I expect to see some kind of warning light on the dash or in the MFD?

I just realised that I never followed up on this thread so I'll do it now to complete it because I hate reading open-ended threads with no conclusion.

Anyway, the Bi-xenon self-check on my lights turned out to be working fine after all. When switching the ignition on with the lights also on, they do actually do the self-check "dance" as shown in one of the previously posted video links.

So my original concern that the AFS was possibly broken all just seems to have been a false alarm
