Hill hold or just broken?

So swapped from a 2010 cupra r to a 2012 cupra r.

Does it have the worst version of hill hold or is it just broken?

So in the leon, there's no buttons no controls. But every time I stop on a upwards hill and take my foot of the brake the car holds itself for about 2 seconds and then starts rolling backwards.

My wife's Tiguan has hill hold, but has a proper button and holds forever. You can also hear the electronic handbrake operating so you know what's what.

So is it broken or is it just the way it works on a Seat?

Car doesn't hold on the flat, or on a downward hill.

Thanks!

That is how it works in our alfa, it is only designed to help you get moving. Hill holder is one of those pointless things though, nobody should need it and the danger is becoming reliant on it.

It's called Hill Start control for... err... Hill starts... If you want to remain stationary on a hill for a period of time theres something called a handbrake :)

It just holds the brakes for up to two seconds allowing you to transfer your foot from the brake to the accelerator without rolling backwards.

Your Leon is working correctly. The VW system is different, partly because of the electric parking brake. I wouldn't trust either.....

I just find the bite point to stop the car rolling down the hill

... and destroy my clutch at the same time out:rolleyes:

Is that so you can have an excuse to upgrade the clutch sooner? :p

Still maintain that hill holder, auto lights and wipers etc are pointless additions that nobody needs. If you rely on any of them, you should probably have stayed at home!

They're convenience items. If we're having that attitude then you don't NEED a huge amount of stuff your car comes with, power steering for example.

I know, but people rely on auto lights, then wonder why no one can see them when it's foggy. "But the lights are automatic?" True story....

I had a Citroen with auto wipers once. Only ever started wiping when it was very wet, or dry!!

Yeah convenience items are good, but so often you need judgement as well. I just think that too much convenience breeds laziness and reliance on tech only leads to trouble.

So what happens when you expect hill holder to be there, but it has stopped working or you are in another car that day? "Sorry for rolling into you mate, by hill holder stopped working " isn't going to wash with me!

I just think that everybody should be able to do hill starts and practice makes perfect.

I am a bit old school though!

Thanks everyone, it's nearly caught me out a few times when I park on our drive as has a slight incline and I stop and apply the handbrake and then the car does a sort of lift at the rear as it releases the brakes.

Agree with most, can't see the point, but at least I understand it now.

Doors too. Who needs em? I've got plenty of weatherproof coats......and what's wrong with wooden seats? Who needs an engine, get a horse, will cut the grass and feed the roses too... Who needs technology? :D

My hill holding system, better known as a handbrake can hold the for absolutely ages. It works so well even, that I can get out the car, lock it, and come back to it without it even budging an inch!:p
