HIDS on a MK4 beeza - questions

Hi folks have had a trawl through the plethera (like that word) of posts regarding HIDS kits conversions etc etc.

What I'm trying to find out is exactly what this is gonna entail if i want them

The kit i need for mains full and sides - do i need to get washers installed - are the an MOT fail - how do i get light patterns - what kit should I order so i get the correct fittings so I'm not tapping or having to tie them in?

As you can see i'm quite confused about this mod but would really love to get it done as simply put it looks f**king awesome on the roads...

Plus i can tear arse it round country lanes late at night with a full view of whats going on.

You will always need to put ballasts in, (use velcro dead easy). H7 bulbs you will need if u have the double bulb headlamp. Also I would go for 6000k or 8000k as these are the most legal ones. Get the alignment done and it should be fine.

MOT wise it is a cloudy area, some say they will pass some say they wont, when it comes 2 mine they are coming off and standards going in. only problem with this is that the alignment should be done after. But they are totaly woth it for the amount u can see and for this reason is why I cant understand the fuss about them, if you can see better and dont blind road users why are MOT tests so strict on them :S.

The penaltie is 3 points and £60 fine.

I had a leon behind me with HIDS, because there is no projectors it was dazaling and very bright.

It should fail the MOT as there are new guidelines, as for the police, there just starting to pull over cars in my area with the obvious BLUE HIDS. 4300K are the only legal ones in the UK.

I've ran aftermarket HID's for about three years now on two separate cars.

Seen by the police on many occasions, passed two MOT's - never had a problem and never known anyone to have a problem with them.

yep. TBH there are people round here running a lot worse than a properly aligned HID kit. Iv followed mates loads and they say it isnt blinding at all, but the diffrence it makes on what you can see is massive. So dont see why they have a problem, I can understand if it is blinding people though

tru, i mean i had a set on my last car and never got any problems from the plod.

I was just posting the legal document from the DVLA. I am not sure i will use a set in the Cupra.

Just think its a a good document to clear up all the confusion people have areound the legalitys of HID kits.

.. so while it may have been released on paper Dec 06 to the Mandarins .. it was not posted to website until May 07... so only 4 months ago.



Maybe BiB will be after it now... better than stopping/educating dodgy drivers... maybe they could play "pulling snooker" with it... with standard lights as reds and pinks, blues, no lights as black.. .. nah .. what we need are "headlight cameras" linked to DVLC that could track non OEM HID cars with a printer in DVLC .. far more effective than human BiB.

The department is only expressing an opinion as to the law on these kits. However if you fit an aftermarket kit it must comply with the eu regulations is all they are saying in legalistic speak.

yep can undertand, I dont think they will go for drivers with properly maintained and aligned HID kits tbh.

there are many cars on the roads with HID kits that have been fitted as standard and are NOT projector style...mini pre facelift springs to mind most as their a common sight on the road, blinding but are not projector style, renault laguna, volvo s60/v70/s80 are all non projector style...so me thinks this is complete bull.
