Hesitation Blues...

I drive an 02 Cupra 20V T - had it for 3 years now, great car.

It has developed a slight hesitation problem - I've searched the forum and read about MAF sensor and DV problems, but haven't seen my symptoms mentioned.

Problem shows up most at roundabouts - approach slowing down with throttle closed in 2nd or 3rd gear, then try to accelerate, engine hesitates briefly then picks up OK.

This has developed over the last 3 months, and seems to be very gradually getting worse. It is most noticeable when the engine is cold, but doesn't go away completely when hot.

Can anybody suggest what might be causing this please???

Car is completely standard - no tweaks.

Check usual, air filter, when was it serviced last? Also if all OK convert to a forge 007 DV lessons hesitation when flooring it.

sounds like it could be the dv on its way out, perhaps the spring is failing or something. might be worth going for the 007 as already suggested.

Hi Mate

There are loads of posts about this...Some started by me!!! I have had the same problem for ages and have tried a new Forge DV, a new N75 (Boost Control Valve), with no joy.

I have just tried a new (Dealer Supplied ) MAF Sensor. So far the MAF is the only thing that has made a difference, and its better now.

If you try a new one. Disconnect the battery for 30 mins while fitting it which will allow you to reset the ECU and Throttle Body Allignment. (You can search for loads of instuctions for this) This will help the ECU to accept the new MAF sensor readings amongst other things.

Problem Solved!

Thanks to those who responded to my query, especially longman - he gave me the idea of trying an ECU reset (without having changed any parts).

I followed the instructions given by davels in a TDI thread (so thanks to him too), and the problem is solved. Throttle response is much better too - car feels quicker than before.

Maybe we should ask VAG to fit a "reboot" button to the ECU.....
