I saw him in the paddock this morning getting ready for the race. Sad news indeed.

Terribly sad to hear of Henry Surtees death this evening, I recorded the race today as part of the WTCC buildup as I've been at the National meet.

I've not watched it as yet, but saw the accident replay on YouTube. Such an incredibly unlucky accident and tragic to lose someone so young and talented.

My thoughts go out to the Surtees family and all their friends and the wider motorsport community.

It's sometimes easy to accept that modern motorsport is relatively free of risk. Safety has come on leaps and bounds and accidents are rarely anything more than a shunt with serious injuries being rare. However it's a dangerous sport and freak accidents will and can happen but it makes it no less of a shock when it does happen. :(

The circuit marshalls deserve the upmost gratitude they make it possible for us to enjoy great racing. They react to every emergency with upmost professionalism and should always be appreciated for the work they do.

Only just read this myself on BBC Sport and it's a tragic end for such a young life, I think we all have a perception that modern motorsport is almost 'without' risks but this freak incident puts things into perspective.

RIP Henry, can't imagine what his family are going through

Freak accident and a sad waste of talent, such a shame. Did the hit from the wheel break his neck or something? I remember a marshall got killed from a flying wheel in F1 a few years ago, shows how lethal these things can be!

I was due to watch the WTCC coverage and caught this before it, looked nasty but didn't think anything of it until the helicopter took off during the first few laps of the WTCC race.

You forget how dangerous motor sport can be these days, what with formula 1 cars hitting the wall at 200mph and drivers getting out with only bruises.

Terrible news. :(

Yup. Horrid in every way. I'm sure there's absolutely nothing can be said to relieve the pain of loosing a child.

The only relief for them may be that it has been stated that pain and suffering would not been an issue as it was instant.

Bad day.

Very sad.

I thought wheels were tethered these days to stop this sort of accident. :(
