Help! "whirring" noise

yesterday a lovely noise developed when driving

as i accelerate theres like a whirring noise coming from around the gearbox area :cry: that gets higher till i change gear then it goes and comes back again when i accelerate - any ideas? please dont say its serious!! car still seems to drive fine its just annoying

its only been a year since it had work done on it to the tune of £400

i have noises like that m8, found out it was my fan belt was to loose worth a check:)

check the oil level, theres a plug next to the diff cap on the nearside behined the wheel, it the levels ok, it should just start leaking out when you remove the plug, if not fill it back up,

oil was checked wasnt that - what should my next step be its still there, but car is still driving ok

its something gearbox / clutch related... either way... my guess would be that youll have to have the gearbox off to find out :(

Could be clutch release bearing maybe (not sure tho)
but just sounds to me like your gear box is fooooked

EDIT: i had mine swapped for a second hand box including the box for 120 :D so its not all that bad if its that

My car makes a whirring noise when I'm doing 60+ in fourth, like a jet trying to take off except not so loud, obviously. It then goes away when I change up to fifth and it doesn't seem to do it in any other gear either so I dont know if its the same problem.

i shouldnt wory about it. if it still drives ok just drive till it breaks. Thats what i plan to do. mine whines. they are really **** gearboxes on the 1.4 and on a lot of the other models.
