Good afternoon ladies and Gents,

Apologies for a thread like this but needed to see if anyone has had the same problem as moi!

I have had the TCS and ABS lights on the dash, got it on Vag Com and these are the results...

1 Fault Found:
01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)
16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

I assume this means my ABS pump is foobared?

Has anyone had this error code pop up before and also Has anyone had to dip in their pockets before and buy a new one, how much was it and also how much of a dog was it to fit?

I searched the Fault code sticky but the fault code wasnt there...

Also... Is the ABS pump driven off the engine or electrically?

I had exactly the same problem as you the other week. The lights came on and off for a few days, until they stayed on.

Unfortunately your ABS pump has kicked the bucket (as mine did), which means the ABS unit needs replacing.

The ABS system has its own ECU (at the bottom of the system) and is driven electronically.

It is a DIY job though, you will just need to source a replacement ABS unit (I got mine for £45 off a member on here)
Part numbers are most commonly (Pump: 1J0 614 417A, ABS ECU: 1J0 907 379 AF.. but they come together anyway)

Its just a case of removing the old unit, fitting the new one, bleeding the brakes, then clearing the code in VAG-COM, it took me about 3 hours. Let me know if you have any questions mate.

Alex, amazing reply thanks, I'll have a search around for a second hand pump as it seems seat would like around £700 for one exc vat!

I know DaNnY_LaD had one for sale the other day, drop him a PM...


Once you have a replacement unit:

1 - Soak the brake lines going into the ABS unit in WD40. Remove air filter & coolant header tank (You dont need to remove any of the coolant pipework, just un-mount it and move out the way). This will allow more area to work with:

2 - Remove the electrical connection by pulling the tab on the connection towards the front of the car until it wont move ant further, then pull upwards. Wrap the plug in a plastic bag to keep dry and move it out the way:

3 - Spray some more WD40 on the brake lines (leave to soak for a while if necessary) and remove the lines from the unit using an open ended spanner.

4 - Remove the 3 bolts holding in the ABS unit.

5 - Offer up replacement unit, attach with the three bolts, re attach brake lines & electrical connection.

6 - Bleed the brakes using a pressure bleeder (I used a £10 gunson bleeder off ebay)

7 - Re-fit coolant header tank & air filter, check the ABS unit for leaks.

8 - Load up vag-com & clear the code.

The brakes will feel spongy for the first couple of miles, slam on a few times to get the ABS system to kick in, after a day or so the brake pedal will return to how it feels normally.
