HELP! stereo draining battery!

hi,
I think I have a common problem with Ibiza's but the threads on this problem seem to be a couple of years old, so I'm not sure if they are still relevent.

I have an 2001 1.4 Ibiza and it used to do this weird thing where it was turned off and I'd walk past and see the radio/screen was on, but at the time it didn't affect anything so didn't really think about it.

Then the I went to use it and the battery was completely dead so got a new one and for another few months it was ok. Then I did quite a long drive to sheffield and back to brighton and the whole screen would not work nor radio/cd changer etc and started draining the battery again, As the battery was only a few months old and heavy duty I knew it wasn't that.
I'm currently having to take the negitive off every time I'm not using it and it seems to work but oviously not a long term fix! I've also noticed that the screen lights up and make a click when the negitive is first attached, as it did when it used to work before it went mad. I'm quite poor so just wondered if anyone knew the best, cheapest way to deal with this.

Any help will be very much apprieciated. :)

I maybe wouldnt blame it on the battery
Remove the fascia and have a look to see all wires are where they should be

Theres is 2 screws directly in front of the gear knob when in neutral
Then theres few in corners

Re

Hi Razor1.4,

Thanks for your reply, I know now that itis not the battery as i recently replaced it with a new heavy duty one.

Thank you for telling me how to get to the wires now i can check for anything obvious and try and work it out.

There was a thread on this site but a few years old, saying it was a common problem with ibiza's due to a diode being prone to fail on the motherboard, and you could sent the unit to a company but I contacted them and they don't do it anymore so stuck again!

God it's annoying!

A quick bodge to stop the radio from turning itself on when you're away from the car is remove the fuse under the steering wheel. A lot less hassle than disconnecting the negative every time. This was actually the first problem I had when I bought my mk3 sport, went to pick up the car and it wouldn't start since the radio had been on all night!

Remove the fascia under the steering column by finding the holes at the top and levering out and down, should pop out easy peasy. Then you should find a sticker on the bit you just removed with all the corresponding fuses labelled, the radio was the blue fuse in the middle at the top on mine.

I've since had a replacement unit through the stealers, so can't help you with a cheap alternative mate, sorry.
