Help! Remote key won't open or lock car?

Put new battery in my Mk1 leon key and now it won't lock or open car.

It works fine for starting the car etc but it won't unlock or lock it. Central locking is still working fine when you press the button on the drivers door when inside the car.

I only have one push button key and the other spare key is just a normal key with no buttons.

Any ideas how to fix this or would I need to go do the stealers?

Does the red light in the keyfob come on when you press the buttons? The battery contacts may not be touching the cell.

This is what happened to me when I changed the battery in my remote fob.

The central locking/alarm remote control is held in the keyfob and is electrically separate from the immobiliser transponder, which is a passive component glued next to the key blade.

Have you definitely put the battery in the right way up? If it is the right way up, check that you didn't short the battery out as it is extremely easy to do and once you shorted them out they are useless.

Get a multimeter on the contacts and it should show 3.3 volts, if you shorted the battery then the voltage will be 3v or less.

Battery is definitely installed correctly and the red light works on the key when the button is pressed.

try

you need to do a synchronize on the remote key.

look in seat manual, chapter 2.38 for synchronization
