My poor car let me down the other day and SEAT unable to find anything wrong in the ECU (partly cos its chipped)

However, It doesnt idle very well when cold - like its being revved slightly on/off the gas.

When driving it feels like it wants to backfire with loads of stuttering under acceleration and the only way to move the car is to put a shed load of revs through to get it going.

Any ideas ? Could this be damp or a dodgy ECU fault ?

dealer changed my air mass sensor (i think that's what it's called, definately air mass something or other) on Monday, my car had exactly the same symptons, changed under warranty. incidentally the dealer said this is a common problem and this fault does not trigger a fault code..... hope this helps...

it'll be a loose rubber pipe:)

just work your way around checking them - they degrade over the hot exhaust manifold

That makes me wonder if it's something electrical. Ignition system? Could be something as simple as a bit of damp in the distributor cap - what's the weather been like in the UK lately? HT lead from coil to distributor perhaps? Maybe coil starting to breakdown. Who knows...

I'm all for checking easy things first, so suggest you look for any disconnected vacuum hoses on inlet manifold (they're the skinny ones), and you'll probably hear hissing noises in the general area when the engine is running. If you draw a blank there, check out the ignition system. Pop the distributor cap off and spray WD40 or something similar that will disperse water inside the cap. Disconnect each HT cable from the distributor in turn and spray a bit more into the terminal in the distributor cap. I say do them in turn 'cause you don't want to pull them all out and then realise you don't remember which way round they were all plugged in. Hopefully, one or the other of these will sort you out.

Keep us posted...
