Hi everyone, ive just put my car through the mot and the garage i use say i have a problem with the abs valve body?? what is this exactly??

Since ive had the car (3 month) the abs light has been on the dash, i had that checked, and on the thing you plug in said it was a speed sensor, which was going to be replaced today, its been checked and all the wheel sensors are showing as working 100% so it did not need replacing.

I trust the garage 100% and they really know there stuff, i havent picked the car up yet i will be doing between 4 and 6.

I was just hoping someone could give me some more info on this problem??

I did a search bit nothing really came up unless i missed something??

Thanks

Dale

only way we could hgelp is if you scan the car for ABS faults.

could be a dirty sensor but could also be the wiring. I currently have this problem. Wire wasn't insulated properly which caused it to short and throw ABS and TCS codes randomly.

had a few faults leading to the valve body that normally end up as blocked brake lines as the solenoid part (big aluminium block) gungs up with crusty old brake fluid over time and neglect

the brains on the top (ecu) is the important part and quite specific but the lower section is pretty standard VAG parts and not too bad to remove and clean out or better still replace but would be my first place to look 'properly' at in reality

put it this way my mk2 ibiza has a Leon ecu + skoda octavia lower valve body both installed at different times after some fishing at the breakers i paid something like £20 + £35 for them but match the numbers for sure

definately have the solenoid valves/block checked over though

flapper, can you simply remove the ABS pump then? WHat flows through that, liquid wise? What should I expect to lose and have to re-fill when refitting? This because I am having a long ABS problem I can;t really get to the bottom of...

thats an example of the whole unit

from the master cylinder you will have 2 pipes (front and rear supply) those feed into the front (12mm iirc) and around them are 4 pipes coming out (all 4 corners) this is all fed through the lower aluminium solenoid block which is just a chamber full of channels with valves in (the silver bit)

sat below is the ecu and the electromagets that control the solenoids below

and on top is the motor assy

these are reasonable easy to remove and strip to clean out but involves a fluid change/drain first, i had to do mine one day when i had a rear caliper wouldnt pass fluid so i made a whole new pipe+hoses still with no joy - after loosening some fittings off realised it was blocked inside

after stripping it all out the solenoids looked blocked with amalgamated fluid/water that looked like silca gel and just got all bunged up, washed it all out with carb cleaner + the wash tank and refitted fresh fluid etc been great since

perfect flapper.

the only thing i'm unsure of now is what you're talking about the ecu for?

Ecu is under scuttle and ABS pump is by powersteering reservoir?

also, what the lowest point I can best drain the brake fluid from?

cheers for the advise

see the photo above - the ecu/control unit is the black piece on the bottom with the motor wires going into it - see the multi pin connector ?

nothing fancy just a group of solenoids + a circuit board/chip

calipers is lowest part but as i have a few plugs/caps to hand i just undid the pipes and caught the dribbles with a rag as i went along as it also saves risk of blowing master cylinder seals inside out

you'll need some torx type sockets to get the screws off too

couldn't tell you the size E6/E7 comes to mind but they were small and this style on mine
