hi, ive got LCR which needs one new tyre, it has two new michelin pilot sport on the front and a pilot sport with 6mm tread on the other rear tyre, my question is should i replace the one worn tyre with a new michelin sport (£150) or would it be ok to put a single good year F1 on OR buy to new F1's for the rear, sorry i kno its a bit confusing but being a student i want the most cost effective soloution. thanks

I'd move the two new pilot sports to the back. Move the worn 6mm tread sport to the front and see if you can replace the worn tyre with a part worn sport with similar tread wear. Although finding one can be tricky there is quite a few places that deal with nearly new tyres. I'm not talking about cheap £12 jobs that will last you a month or two :)

yh i was thinkg of doin exactly that but getting a part worn tyre seem a bit of a hassle as they always seem to have some thing wrong with them like slow punctures

Well I've just been on MyTyres to try and understand the issue, and their Pilot Sports are £205

You're right - it is confusing! Assuming you can't buy two F1s for £150, I'd just get another Pilot Sport

The cost of tyres is chicken-feed really when it comes to running costs

For the equivalent of like 50p a week (if you kill them in 2yrs) it's worth spending the extra cash just for symmetry, and no unexpected behaviour as road conditions change

 I'm exactly the same - if you can get away with it (ie. directional tread doesn't casue a problem) move the fronts to the rear & stick the new one on the n/s front.... you'll soon get it down to the 6mm :drive1:
