Hi All,
Yesterday lost reverse then it reappeared and now i've lost 1st and 2nd gear.

I've stuck my head under the bonnet to check the gear linkages and tweeked them with no joy, goes too far one way 1st becomes reverse too far the other 1st becomes 3rd. No middle ground can be found it all moves into place but no "engagement (clunking into gear) can be heard or felt)

No noises prior to losing gears none since. All other gears go in fine. even rev now.

Any other things i should try looking into before i take a trip to the garage.

Y01 cupra MK1.

Thanks

ive got the same problem right now. did you manage to fix it?

ive lost 1st and 2nd. reverse went but has come back. 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are all ok.

when goin into 1st and 2nd, the gear lever feels slack.

ive checked the linkage and nothing seems to have moved or broken.

Hello,
I have this problem now, exacty the same, Thought reverse had gone, put back into neutral and then first and second had gone but reverse now ok. all other gears ok.

Can anyone tell me what the problem was/is? Is it a selector fork? Or something simpler?

Hope you can help. :(

SOrry, forgot to mention it is a 52 reg Leon Cupra 1.8t, 54 k ish. I have checked linkage and there doesn't appear to be anything loose or broken but have not tried adjusting anything.

iirc, it was a little plastic clip in the gearbox that held the linkages together/ in place. the part was cheap but it was a gearbox out job to fix it.
cant really remember much more than that im afraid.
good luck.

Ok great, thanks for replying. I have resigned myself to the fact that the gearbox will probably have to come out anyway so just fingers crossed it will not be too much.

Thanks again.

I had this just before Christmas as well as a few other people.

First and second gear selector fork in your gearbox is only rivetted on during original manufacture, over a lot of working hours on your car the rivet will work loose and eventually snap causing the fork to fall out of alignment.

When it's refurbished the selector fork is bolted in instead, a much more secure method.

You're looking at about £400 for the repair mate, it's a gearbox out job as dubstyle says.

Hope you get it sorted soon mate, it was pain in the ass for me before Christmas lol!
