Im having some probs with my Ibiza @ the mo.
The car turns over, but then kills. there is a fast clicking noise near the dash area.
I had the same problem a few months ago, the garage I bought it off tried everything @ the time - inc putting a new ignition barrell in it, but the problem persisted. the done a bit of 'jiggling round' and it went for a few months. Dont think they even know what they done in the first place, so Im not going back to them.

Its not cold related, the same thing happened during the summer.
the difference is the clicking in the dash lasts longer now.
Starter motor? thoughts anyone?

fast clicking? battery?

No, the car turns over, but then after a few seconds it kills.
If it was a battery it wouldnt turn over at all.

It needs a starter motor soon anyway, but thats not causing the noise either..

Could be completely unrelated, but my girlfriend had a similar problem in her Corsa (clicking in the dash etc) and it turned out to be a problem with the immobiliser.

This theory I could nearly go with. A few months back when I was having the same problem, the immobiliser was giving grief so I disabled it.
The engine kills the same way the immobiliser would.
Im starting to think the fookin thing will need an excorsist not a mechanic

This happend last week to me, my battery was dead.

I got in the car after not driving it for 5 days or so and it almost turned over, I tried again and there was nothing and I suspected it was the battery, on the 4th/5th go all I had was fast clicking.

Put the battery on charge for 4 hours and I have had no problems since - It's common for your problem to go flat during the winter as the cold saps the energy from it. combine this with short journeys are your asking for a flat battery ;)

nope.. looked into the battery already.
In the beginning I was thinking along those lines alright.
The problem started off during the summer months this year, so I dont think its simply down to the cold either

I would suggest you try the battery as well. I have problems with the click/blinking sound. Oil related problems. Continous clicking/blinking over a week drained battery. couldn't get car to turn over. new battery sorted turn over problems. still have oil problems though :(

I think I have the same problem. Does your car click with the engine running? Mine didn't want to start unless I held my foot flat on the accellerator and tried to start it, but it took ages to start. Then it would start, but ran really badly. I changeed the coolant temperature sensor, and now it starts and runs much better, but there is still a clicking sound coming behind the dash.
Also the previous owner disabled the immobiliser. I was thinking it may be a relay or something. Anyone got any ideas.

Maybe a dodgy relay. Fuel pump relay perhaps???

If its starting then i cant see it being the battery

When you say clicking - Is it a loud metalic noise

In my case the clicking is not metallic. I did think it could be the fuel pump relay, but was told that if it clicks, it is working, so I thought that something else may be causing it to keep cutting in and out. As I said though, my car is running smoother now, but still clicks, and sometimes revs too fast at idle when it has been used for a while (not sure of engine speed, as I haven't got a rev counter). Any ideas any one?

My clicking problem is gone for now. I got a new relay for it, but the mechanic only used a part that came with it  said the relay itself was fine.
The clicking started again when some wiring in the same area came loose. So then I was back to - start, lost on the rev counter, then went flat. was never a battery issue. I'd suggest trying the relay too.

I have a new relay that I bought but haven't tried yet, so I'll give it a go. I didn't get any other bits with it though, just the relay. I got it from German Swedish and French car parts.
I will also look for any loose connections while i am there, may find the cause of the problem.
Thanks. Drew
