Help Needed on ESP

Hi to all members,

The other day i decided to turn the TCS off on my52 20 VT which is revo'd (Stage 2) and it was spinning right through the gears.

However on the way back home i noticed a strange smell from the engine bay and just thought it may be a coincidence.

Today some 3 days later the ESP light has came on permanently and wont go off.

Any suggestions is most appreciated.

Cheers

Spinning the wheels through every gear, then noticing a strange smell? I wonder......

I expect it will need connecting to vag-com to see why its had one. Might be an ABS sensor has failed/is faulty, or something similar. Do you know anyone near you who has the vag-com siftware to save you going to a dealer?

could be coil pack or maf.

when you say the esp light comes on you mean the same light that comes on when you turn the tcs/esp off?

was the smell eggy? if so i believe that points the coil pack. although im unsure if that brings up the esp light.
or could be the fact you were giving it some and you cooked something, perhaps the brakes? (as turning off tcs/esp does not dissable it 100%)

Failed maf brings up the esp light.

When I picked my car up from JCT600 in Leeds the salesman told me to press the ESP button before I set off in order to turn the traction control ON.

I said are you sure mate? Would have thought it's the other way round?

No always make sure you press that button. Cupra R's are lethal without the traction control on.

Wll trained salesmen.

Sorry completely off topic I know..., I have no idea how to help with your problem but would suggest VAG COM as your first port of call.

Hi All

Got it sorted and it was a dodgy MAF meter.

£60 exchange Bosch one and all is tickety boo now.

Strange this is though that it also set the TRACS light on dash too , but all is cleared now.

Cheers

Hitting the TCS button, turns on a symbol showing a rotating arrow and an exclamation mark, are they exclaming that it's on? I think not.

Good news! Apparently the car should feel a bit sharper with a proper working MAF!
