help mot emissions

it was only this time last year that my car failed it's mot and its done it again this yearbut just on emissions this time. i've changed the laba probe and put the original air filter back on and it still wont pass. could anyone give me some addvice please as i've got till sunday to sort everything out then i have no mot and tax

I would guess at Catalytic converter being your first point of call then

what are the emissions figures?

no point changing lambda probes if the lambda is OK........

maybe youve got a hole in the exhaust... if youve got a hole itll never pass, talking from experience here. dependant on how fussy the MOT people are have a listen under youre car when you take it back, or ask to have a listen cos youre menat to only get 1 free retest (although some give you a couple) before sunday, listening for a blowing sound. if you find a hole just cover it up with some exhaust repair or aluminium tape at worst... mine had a hole and i just wrapped that section of pipe in aluminium tape and it passed ... 3rd time lucky

also if theres no hole some engine de-coker or whatever it is (redex style) might give a bit better reading... is it far out?

also, make sure the engine's nice and warm/hot before you take it back for a retest. If they tested it when it was stone cold, then the CAT won't be up to full operating temp

Yip, take it a wee blast down the motorway or dualcarriage way before you take it in to them

well it's passed second time around.
Found a place called ADAMBAKER Automotive developments in braford that dose dignostics. poped down on sat and they had a look for me.
After running a check on the ecu a air flow meet error came up checked it out and one of the wires had corroded and snapped so they wired it all back up rechecked it and no error yay.

would have to say i recomend them their top guys and even the guy's from perfomance VW have done abit on them
