As you might have seen in the 'Free' section m0rk is offering to swap his stg2 ecu for a working stg 1 hes mentioned it to me a couple of times before hand but im still a little unsure on what to do. I have all the mods bare the k03s which will be on eventully... What do you guys reckon? does anybody have stg2 without the k03s? Im just a little worried that i swap the ecu and its going to produce less power/torque or its going to feel cack and not feel as aggressive as the stg1 map.i know the stg2 is supposed to have a smoother power delivery but without going out in a stg 2 im not sure how its going to compare to the stg1. Any opinions welcomed as im abit undecided at the moment.

Cheers

running 224bhp/240ftlbs approx.

you don't need an uprated turbo for stage 2, i thought it was designed for a ko3.

i have stage 2 on my ko3 i dont think it is as agressive as the stage one but the power gets down alot better i think and it cuts out alot of the wheel spin that i had in stage one, but i only had stage one for a week until i got my 4bpr in then i got stage two as i already had a air filter and exhaust

I know you dont need a uprated turbo to run stg2 but not many people are running stg2 without the k03s.

Gained 15bhp on stage 2. Nuff said.

Hmm would i be looking at that sort of gain as im running 224bhp and isnt that pretty much maxxing the k03? So what kind of benifit would i get from having the stg2? apart from getting the power down alot smoother? Phil was you running stg2 before you had the k03s installed? if so what would you recommend?

Coober, Would you recommend the stg2 over the stg1 even though you only had it for a week?

i've never been convinced by stage 2 personally, i don't know exactly why but it seems to me like theres not alot left in it and to gain some more, something would be sacrificed.

for me the way my car is running now i wouldnt change it. ok i could do with some more power but i'd want a bigger jump than stage 2 or a k03s. so for me its 90-100quid down the pan

Well as far as ill be going is k03s and that will be happening in the future but my main concern is that ill get the stage2 installed for free but then wont like it and will have to put up with it until i manage to get my brakes, suspension and then finally the k03s!

TBH, i think if your goin k03s then you really need to have stage 2 as it requests, and the k03s delivred the boost at the top end.

But as you've pointed out, you've pretty much maxed out the k03, stage 2 would only really give you more top end power.

I personally think that its just as agressive as stage 1, but as it keeps the boost on for a bit longer it just feels smoother.

And for the price of a 4 bar and upgrade whats the problem?

When i got my stage 2 on i had the d/p put on same time and tbh didnt feel much quicker but definately smoother, if your going k03s anyway do it because its free and as phil says its requested when fitting k03s. All it felt like when i had it put on was that it lowered the boost spike a bit but kept it boosting a bit longer and in the long run it is slightly quicker.
Mine still puts a smile on my face :)

Have you guys played about with an SPS3 and monitored the effects with VAG COM? That would be my first port of call, Stage 2 however does give you a slightly wider range of adjustment as to run it you should have all the essential mods which would allow you to run higher levels of boost and timing.
In regards to going for a completely different map, you'd have less adjustment and less flexibility in doing that.

I think I said I'm happy to swap ** over & then go set it up on stage 2 to see if you're happy either way

as it is you've maxed out the range of adjustments on Stage 1 easily (turbo isn't nearly working hard enough top end, and you're getting minimal timing correction at peak load only

if you're not happy I'll just swap it back. Doesn't bother me either way :D
