Help me find a correct size winter tyre

Hey yall.

My car came without winter tyres, and it’s almost time to switch to those. Also I don’t have any other rims I could use, so I‘m looking for a set of 17 inch tyres. My summer tyres are 225/45. Should I go for the same size in winter edition, or slightly thinner? I was thinking 205/50 maybe. Rims shown on the picture below, I have no clue whats the ET number on these.

Cheers!

Your rims are 17 inch diameter, 7.5 inch width, with an ET 51mm
Tyre size calculator
This gives an almost identical rolling circumference between the two tyre sizes you mention.
What you need to bear in mind is that on those 7.5inch wide rims, the ideal tyre width is 215 or 225mm, with 205mm listed as the minimum permitted. Many will argue saying they have 205's on 7.5, just quoting what the recommendations are.
Personally I'd try to pick up another set of rims for your winters - my current winters are 205/55x16, on Audi BBS rims. Solves the problem of getting tyres swapped over twice a year, reduces the risk of any damage done swapping tyres over, and reduces any salt damage on your summer alloys.
Previous winters I've used on my previous and current Leon were 195/65x15 on steel rims, both gave almost identical rolling diameters

Your 17s will be fine with winters just swap tyres for the same size. I ran that same wheel with 225 45 17 winter tyres on my mk3 cupra st. It rode very well.
