**Help! Light on dashboard**

Hi all, sorry for the manic post but a light has just come on on my dashboard.

If you look at this pic....

it's the middle row middle light, the one that's the hollow circle with 6 dashes round the edge, 3 either side. (yellow background i've not done the pic properly)

It's a 2002 Leon tdi by the way.

Please please could someone tell me what it is, and if it's safe for me to do my 50 mile commute home this evening!

Hi mate,
Could be wrong but im sure thats the brake pad low indicator.
Meaning your front brake pads need replacing.

its brake wear indicator light, means your pads are getting low. It should be fine for you to do your commute, but when you get a chance have a look to see how worn your pads are.

Remember to have a look on the inside of the discs. as those pads wear quicker apparently.

My discs were slightly worn and had a bit of a lip which caused my pad to wear unevenly and expose the sensor a bit earlier then it should of. I kept an eye on my pads and got another month's use out of them.

As for a rough idea on price....for my 01 LC i think i paid about £52(that might eb the ex vat price) for a set of pads and fitted them with a mate of mine along with discs, as mine were pretty worn.

If you can its worth just buying the parts and doing it yourself as I was getting quoted in excess of £90 for fitted pads!

Hi, thanks very much for the replies, I will get them and sort fitting, not paying silly dealer prices to have them changed!

At least now I know it's not something engine related so it's ok to drive for a lil while!

Strange car I have!! All the way home last night the light wasn't on at all, but driving in this morning it came on about half way into my journey.

I'm going to get some new pads at lunch today and have a look at the old ones tonight and change them if need be.

Fingers crossed it doesn't rain tonight!
