I have just been up to Newcastle to look at a silver 51 plate Ibiza Cupra with 48k miles and a FSH. The car was in very good condition and all looked legit.

Took it out for a test drive and it had a few slight hesitations when it was cold. The lad mentioned it whilst it was doing it, and just said it was as it was cold; but went as soon as warmed up. Ive had cars in the past which have done similar things 's when cold, so I slightly ignored it.

Once warm, it ran spot on, and pulled good boost in every gear. It was all looking good, so I bought it. Then 15 mins back down the road, put my foot down in 3rd coming down a motorway slip road; it began to boost and then suddenly hesitated massively. It basically did this a number of times during the journey home in virtually every gear. Sometime's it boosted fine, and then others it began to spool up and then just lost all boost, causing large hesitations.

The mods are; full Powerflow system, Forge FMIC, Forge TIP, K & N open cone, Forge 007p and a 'custom' remap. I presume this to be an open ECU remap; but am not really sure. The remap was done a while ago, so I guess this problem it has now is only recent. When it does boost, it spikes at about 20psi and tail's off to about 15psi.

Then also, 10 mins from home the EPC light came on and has stayed on since?

So, what do you guys think these could be caused by? I was thinking maybe spark plugs, and I cannot see any indication in the service history of them ever being replaced. Could this be possible? Will the EPC light thing be in relation to the hesitations?? Would it show up on VAG-com??

Any info is greatly appreciated, as I am quite gutted about these little things tbh!! Sorry about the essay btw!

Apart from that the car is awesome!

Many thanks

EPC light normally means throttle/brake switch/clutch switch

EML is coil?

Only a totally dead maf will light the TCS/ABS light though

Vagcom will reveal all for you though

Its a computer program, that allows you to read logs / clear faults on the car.

www.ross-tech.com (i think - Check the Vag Com section on the forum. )

Leads to connect the car to a laptop, are available from numerous places, but also ebay, although these are reported to sometimes not work.

Right, well I went out for a good while in it yesterday, and it only really hesitated once or twice, strange!

So, presuming the EPC light isn't related to the hesitations ie, is the clutch/brake/throttle switch; will Vagcom still show up what the hesitations are, even though they are not actually bringing up a warning light themselves??

Also, I think I may just change the plugs; what are best to put in it?

My cupra has just started goin the exact same thing, driving the car off boost its completly fine but once you boot it it misfires badly, no EML came up but this is the 2nd time its happened in a few weeks and the 1st time it turned out to be the coil pack on cylinder 4, replaced it and all was great, doin it on cylinder 1 now, just gonna change them all for good measure.

Got quoted £26+VAT each from the Dealers so that aint to bad a price
