Took my LCR to the dealer last week complaining of an intermittent clunking noise/ vibration coming from my clutch.

It doesn't happen all the time & only when in crawling traffic or pulling away in 1st gear, just at the biting point.

You can feel it pull/ clunk through the drive shaft and pedals.

(there is no pattern to when it happens)

The dealer blamed the brakes (new car, done 500 miles) and to that, copper greased the callipers but this hasn't fixed it.

Any help with this would be appreciated so I can go back to them informed.

Cheers

Hi drummer, I have the same noise in my car. i noticed it when i was holding the biting point at a set of lights on a hill. its like i can also feel the vibration on teh clutch pedal too.

said to the stealer "can you hear that". he said "hear what sir". any way, he heard it and got it checked at the garage. they found nothing wrong with the clutch and said it may just be the car needs driving in as it was on the forcourt for a month. Cars done 5000 miles so far

Hi Diddy

Has the noise gone from yours now or is it still there?

I have done a forum search & seems like a few folk have had similar problems, from missing bolts, dog bones probs, brakes etc.

This is my 2nd LCR, the first one never had this noise/ pulling feeling.

I may just book it in again

Not too far away
Get a torque wrench get under the car and check the front dog bone mount bolts mate even a bolt that needs nipping up by 90 deg can make a clunk that can be felt through the pedals and heard. Might not be but its worth checking they are done up to around 30lbft:)

Arrrgh!

The clunk, when moving off in 1st, is still there but not as bad

The rattle/ clonking from the front seems more pronounced when slowing & going round corners & when engine is cold.

I've done a big search & come up with this lot!

Wheel bearings (but only done 700 miles?)
cv joint
drive shaft
fly wheel
front anti roll bar
dog bone & bolts
brakes / calipers
gearbox
clutch

I am no mechanic so haven't got a clue what to put infront of dealers nose when the car goes in (the noise is not there all the time)....

HELP!

i would guess you should take that little list to the dealers and ask them to check all of them....

Hi Diddy

I did just that today!

They phoned at 4pm, can we keep your car another day sir?

I guess the bloody thing is in bits with lots of head scratching going on :-o

I will let you know the answer....

Cheers

My car makes the same noise.

Usually when holding at the biting point, of course you only do this when starting on a uphill stretch.

Mine seems to make that horrible clunking noise when revving at about 1,000 to 1,800 rpm, after that it goes smooth again (not just muffled by the engine noise). It's be surprised if it where tracked down to a loose/rattling part, it sounds more like a cog or something slightly mis-aligned IMHO.

I'm not experiencing any other problems at the moment so I just try to avoid it as much as possible. If anyone else has this problem and gets it fixed, please let us know.

Good news!

Gear box replaced....Clunk gone :)

It was the diff' that had gone, because the car had only done 700 miles SEAT technical told the dealer to replace the whole box.

The old box is going back to the SEAT workshop for a post mortem.
