Since my 04 Leon has had it's 40,000 mile service it has developed a severe waterleak which fills the passenger footwell with water.
I've been advised that the service monkeys have not replaced the seals to the pollen filter properly.
Can somebody tell me how to check this and replace the seals properly myself.
Also I have been advised that the doors can fill up with water 'cause the weather seals are too good, which can cause water ingress too. Does anybody know anything about a fix for this if this is part of the problem?
Thanks

hi mate.

Yep - i had the exact same problem - new years day no less :(

Anyway, its the cover thing that goes over the pollen filter.

A) take it all off - and make sure the pollen filter is clean/dry - chances are if you have a leak it will be black, dirty and very very wet. Get a new one! Don't bother trying to keep the old one.

B) Fit new pollen filter, and then make sure plastic bit (about 30cm long) is clipped on to the front of the pollen filter, in a vertical position. This deflects water away from the filter.

C) Re-fit the rubber cover bit. When doing this, make sure you DON'T knock the plastic bit fitted in B) off. And make sure that it goes in properly, so that any water can travel down the channel that is situated above it along to the wing of the car.

I actually found a good test is to get a jug of clean tap water and pour it in at the channel, and make sure you can see the water run down to the wing of the car.

Once happy this is all done, get the interior of the car dry. Remove any car mats and fully dry. Drive with heaters pointed at floor for a while, this helps to dry it out. The carpet may be touch dry quickly, but the sound deadining material underneath takes quite a while to dry out. You also want to make sure it is completely dry as you don't want to cause any rust issues in the body, and secondly dirty rain water can carry diseases etc, and this is obviously very bad.

Good luck :)

Dude,

I had a cm of water in my passenger footwell over christmas and new year every time it rained, although it was the door that was the problem: pre-modded door seals inside the doors have been letting water collect in the sills for months which resulted in wet shoes if you opened the door! This just got worse and then the water found a way in through the trim join into the car. It went in last week to have the door seal mod on all 4 doors (and a replacement secondary air pump because that was sounding like a spitfire everytime I started the car cold!). I had my doubts but its done the job brilliantly. I'm sure an 04' would have had this mod applied though so it must be your pollen filter.

Now I just need to shift the musty smell... any ideas?

Thanks guys,
I've had the filter cover off and replaced it paying attention to get the rubber in without folding it over and it is a lot better, but still leaking slightly. I didn't check the plastic trim on the pollen filter though and will have a proper look again tomorrow in the daylight , that is if it ever stops raining here in sunny jockland.
I'll post again with results
Thanks
Martin

Sure enough the rubber had got flipped over at the rhs where it should drain into the wing, but was draining into the fiilter.
As predicted it's been peeing down all day and it hasn't leaked anymore, so I hope that's an end to it.
What a daft setup!
Much gratitude to all who helped

I had major problem with water in the front passenger footwell around 12 months ago. Pulled back carpets & found water to be comng from front of footwell right under dash. took it to a friends garage who discovered there was a rubber bung on the inside of the the front wing up under the wheel arch somewhere. He said he had refit & sealed it and problem was cured.
Dont know if anyone else knows of this plug / bung. but thats hat he told me.
