HELP: Excess Polution Light

Parked the car up last night and all was fine. This morning when i turned the car over the orange excess polution light didnt turn itself off like it normally would. Ive searched on the forum and found it could be a fault with the coilpack, cat, lamba sensor etc but understand that you need to retrieve the fault code for it to determine what the actual problem is. Ive looked at vag-com but the kit\software is like over £200 but found mentions of kits available on ebay for alot less.

Can anyone shed more light on suitable ebay vag kit or abit more about the excess polution problem ?

after abit of research i take it my MK1 leon wont be using the newer CAN BUS system.

I found a 16-pin OBD2 USB KKL VAG-Com Cable on ebay with VAG-COM 409.1 software, will this do the trick ?

You can buy a £30-40 fault code reader if you want to save some money, they read and reset codes, mine also reads and resets ABS and Airbag codes......its paid for itself 20 times over already and I've only had it 6 months.

i've got a laptop, so could i not do the same thing with a cable and the VAG-COM software, like what you do with the fault code reader ?
