A week ago, I started noticing intermittant problems in opening or closing windows using the key fob. I thought maybe the battery and changed it, but it made little difference. Tow days later the panoramic sunroof stopped working all together (inclsuing the sun shade) after a car wash. I inspected the frame around it, but neither debris nor other stuff blocking anything. Ateca dealer here scratched his head, said he hadnt come across this one.

I had tried to reset the windows and the sunroof by pressing and holding the opening (and also the closing) buttong for over 10 sec, but made no difference. Then at the dealer, the sunroof suddenly started moving and it closed fully (On the managers third attempt). Decided not to touch it for 24 hrs.

Next day, I tried it from within the car and it duly worked again. I then went to reset all windows using the 10sec opening press. They all made the reset sound. But the key fob is still not doing anything to the windows. OTher than that windows and sunroof work fine now, and the key has no problem starting the car, or letting me in or locking it (even remotely)

Any idea, whether there is way to reset the synch somewhere else?

Well, quick follow up. From other people I was told that the key fob only works for opening windows and sunroof, if all windows and sunroof are correctly calibrated (whihc may mean resetting). I have tried to reset the sunroof multiple times by pressing and holding the opening button in all four rocker positions for over 10 sec, but didnt do nothing.

At one point however I had the ignition off, and then also had the button held, and it did the reset. That happened either while the ignition was still off, or when starting the ignition (and still holding the button).

Maybe can be helpful for others. It fixed my problem. I can now open and close all windows from the keyfob remotely again.

Well the one touch closing and also opening of the panoramic roof is disabled in VAG cars due to an incident in the States where it either killed someone or they got a bad injury. It can be coded back in. Suspect that's been done on your car. It will have been unless VAG now have better motors that don't chop people's heads off. At launch back in 2016 it was disabled.

You can code it back covered on the Ateca coding thread. It's popular on the continent where people returning to their parked car want to fully open everything up as they approach.

I have kept these notes I gleaned from the web and manual on the use of one touch and resetting it:

Wing mirrors and window failing to work after battery disconnected.
Car went back in to local dealer before Christmas and mirrors now fixed. Technician sorted it while I waited. He explained that he connected it up to a computer and now sorted. He also pointed out that the one-time touch operation on the front passenger window had ceased to work too. He showed me how to fix it if it happens again. ...Ignition on, lower the driver's window fully, release button hold down again for 2 secs, raise window, hold button again for 2 secs. Folding mirrors via fob and one-time touch on Windows linked.
Happy motoring to you all!
....
See page 128 of the manual ... Doesn't mention windows but is it.

Resetting one-touch opening and closing
The automatic open and close function will
not work if the battery has been temporarily
disconnected. The function can be restored
as follows:
– Close the window as far as it will go by lift-
ing and holding the electric window switch.
– Release the switch and then lift it again for
1 second. This will re-enable the automatic
function.
If you push (or pull) a button to the first
stage, the window will open (or close) until
you release the button. If you push or lift the
button briefly to the second stage, the win-
dow will open (one-touch opening) or close
(one-touch closing) automatically. If you op-
erate the button while the window is opening
or closing, it stops at this position.

I then noticed that the safety button at the back of the windows buttons was activated which stops the rear windows from working. I discovered that this also deactivated one touch. As soon as I switched it off, one touch worked OK.

And for calibration of start and stop on auto one touch up and down

》》
When using the auto close mode, there is this protection as NeilW described. But it should not activate if you use the manual closing. If you get the window closed all the way with manual mode, then you can calibrate the auto closing function. At this point, pull the lever all the way up, keep it there for 2 seconds, then release it. Now push the lever down to open the window all the way and then repeat the calibration procedure again: release the lever, push it all the way down again and keep it there for 2 seconds, then
release it. Now both upper and lower limits should be calibrated, check if it still bounces back when closing.

The other thing is the windows need to be retrained after the battery is disconnected. If you don't the mirrors stop automatically folding in. The behaviour is all linked.
