I fitted a boost gauge last night all seems fine, the car is boosting at around 25psi then tailing off to 23psi at around 3.5k revs...........

But, when i nail, in the first 3 gears it seems fine but into 4th the car just looses power and struggles to get past 85mph, the gauge is still reading 20psi in 4th,

Do i have a boost leak or is it due to the 27 degrees temperature we've got????

Iv checked where i fitted the tube and ive even wrapped it in self-amalgamating tape to be sure,

Please help me..................

Cheers all

you can normally hear a boost leak! when i fitted my fmic i had to mod a pipe and it kept coming loose and i could tell it came loose by the sound. i'd describe the sound but i can't. hope this helps :)

not sure about that,
plus you would smoke more as your not getting the air you need in to burn the fuel as the ecu will still see 20psi of boost, weather you have a boost leak or not the ecu will still inject the same amount of fuel for 20psi. So look for smoke other than that i dont know could be the heat i'll try mine when i finish work.

Right, i just tried a couple of logs, first time the intake temps reached 93 degrees!!!

and the second time i didnt log, it went into limp mode,

Fingers crossed its just heatsoak and not a boost leak,

edit: i didnt notice any excess soot???

Any more ideas?

Sounds like heatsoak to me. 93 degrees is HOT. :)

I've never been able to log mine, but I should think the FMIC helps keep my intake temps nicely below the 60 degrees mark.

from when I logged a mates 130PD in standard form I think we seen around 80C so more than likely heat soak whats the temp like where you live?

bit off topic but where did you get the bits to tap into the intercooler pipework or where did you do it?

What do you mean by this? Do you mean for monitoring the temperature of the turbocharged intake air? BEcause if you do, its all done through the ECU and vag-com. The only bolt on bit for that would be a feed for a boost guage, but thats only pressure not temp. Its the car's ECU reading very high intake temps which makes it ease off the power, and if its gets too bad, throws into limp mode.

Definatley heat soak, same things were happening to ed butlers car before he got his fmic. massive inatke temperatures and loss of power at around 80-90mph. He fitted his FMIC and all is fine now.
Have you seen how small those sidemounts are though!!! :)

Thanks for all the replies, Looks like i best join the Forge group buy!!!

oh and fezboy, i drilled into the intake pipe, from the intercooler, i then found an adaptor from work, i threaded the pip, used some loctite on the threads and wrapped loads of self- amalgamating tape around it to be sure,

Tried a few more runs on the way home just, iv took the foglight out to aid cooling, help 22psi in 4th gear to triple figures,

BTW, my temp display was showing 29.5 degrees earlier!!!!!

Sorry meant where did he tap into to get the boost gauge, and what parts did he use!

Thanks for the explaination! What does the adaptor look like that you used to tap into the pipe?

I tested mine, (think ive the same cooler as you) and no way could i get the intake temps over 35 degrees.

same company, but I think I have a marginally smaller IC due to width constraints between the mounting points for my bumper bar. I'd love to be able to take some logs but at the moment my laptop's got a smashed screen so is out of action. Just glad I have a mate with a snap-on scanner to still fault read/clear for me.

Install shot. Bumper bar is now black

Its like a brass piece of metal, with a plastic ring on one end where the tube pushes in and a thread on the other,

demon tweeks sell the proper kits for a tenner,

oh and my wallets bruised after iv just ordered the new FMIC!!!!!

I know i'm jacking this thread a bit but I was looking on there for racetech oil pressure/temp guages and 3 pods to match (to take my racetech boost guage too)

It all looked very confusing to me. :)
