Can anyone help me out here?

I was driving down the road, there was a big bang asif something had hit the windscreen, then the sound of loose rubber on my tire (ie blowout) but my windscreen is ok, tyres are fine, but i found this scraping on the floor... 2 bolts had apparently "fallen out" leaving this to scrape...

What is it exactly? what does it do? is it needed?

It's the plastic tray that sits under your engine stopping crap coming up at it from the road, etc as well as providing a bit of sound deadening. However, it's not strictly necessary so you can take it off if you want.

i shouldnt think so mate, its only to give a bit of extra protection underneath. most cars dont usually have these to my knowledge anyway

i would reattach given the chance though

Its an undertray, Just stops muck and water getting up inside the engine bay and to help sound. Just needs to screws putting back in which u can get from Seat. But deffo put it back on as its worth having it there and its part of the car. But no it wont do anything bad to the car.

the bang might be something hitting the under side of the car and now the tray is hanging down as what ever hit it has broken it........
