Help, AUQ engine will not start after oil low pressure

Hi I am in need of some help please.

I replaced the crank case breather pipe as various segments were cracked / cracking and the engien was running rough at low revs. After a few minutes of driving I got the red flashing oil pressure warning light. I carefully drove 5 minutes home - was getting some strong rattling noises at low revs. I assumed I got some rubbish into the crank case and the oil filter / pick up pipe was blocked so I changed the filter, oil and cleaned the pick up pipe which was badly clogged and there were quite a few small bits of what looked like breather pipe plastic in the sump. Then tried starting the car - it grumbled but mnisfired badly a couple of times and now will not start - strong smell of petrol and loud whistling noise if I try the starter motor for 10+ seconds. I checked vagcom for fault codes
16396 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake)
P0012 - 35-10 - Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded) - Intermittent
17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
P1297 - 35-00 -
16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
P0341 - 35-00 - Implausible Signal
17748 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
P1340 - 35-00 - Incor. Correlation

I went back and checked the pipes and cannot see anything wrong.

Any ideas where to start - I read that you can shag the VVT tensioner but would that stop the car from starting?

Many thanks for any help - before I call a garage to tow it .........

Yeah because your camshaft timing will be out as both those codes say. You should never carry on driving without any oil pressure. If the oil pressure was low enough to stop the cam adjustment then i expect it's probably damaged all the bearings in the engine and turbo too.

You won't start it . That's what happened to fine . Went in Bedford and drove it all the way home in limp. Traveled the 20 odd miles somehow . Wouldn't start again . Tried everything but its a no go .
Tow job I'm afraid !!!

Hi Maty, Thanks (..) but where to start - check the VVT tensioner and replace that first - from what I read it is a simplish job whereas bearings etc is obviously to the garage. Is there anyway to check the VVT tensioner I have found many links on how to replace it but none on how to tell if it is shagged.

Any obvious way to know if the bearings are damaged - the engine cranks so I assume that if there is any bearing damage it would not stop the engine from starting?

Thanks

John

errr permission for lower lip to wobble .... sounds like I have nothing to lose but try to replace the tensioner - straight question does anybody know if a shagged tensioner alone would stop the engine starting?

At least yours is just a lower lip wobble . Mine was a child's stamping my feet with a bottom lip dragging 4ft behind me.
Can't really advice on the tensioner bud as mine was just easier to say ' there you go , now fix it ' .
Guessing you got nothing to loose . Change it if shagged and if it still don't work then it's still been changed .
Hope it's not too bad in the long run mate , and you get her up and running again soon .

As cupraslayer says mate, the valves can get bent if the timing is too far out. No way of testing the adjuster that i know of. Both of those camshaft codes would highly suggest that its shagged to me. You'll need to reset the valve timing once the adjuster is off, fit the new adjuster and then hope for the best that you haven't bent a valve etc.
This haynes covers all the engine for the AUQ http://www.halfords.com/workshop-to...nes-manuals/haynes-vw-golf-bora-01-03-manual#

Got my fingers crossed for you.

Cupraslayer - thanks for the encouragement, off to have a mild cry and a glass of something to calm the nerves for tomorrow.

On a positive note ........ You get to have a glass of something , and a think about b/t time !! :)

Makes sense while it's all out bud . May cost a bit more , but think of it as it's got to come out now anyway . If I'm honest I wish I had done it when mine went . Defo worth thinking about if funds let you .
