Hey guys...

As the titled suggest....

My Altea turned it's self off while doing 40 mph...
I quickly put my hazards on - slowly pulled over.
The radio was still on... the lights where still on - all dials on the dash went to 00.
Put it into park... handbrake... turned the key to OFF... tried to start the car again... nothing.. no sounds.. nothing.

Left it for 10 seconds - tried it again... it worked?!

Drove around the corner, this time donig 30mph...
the car cut out again!! quickly put hazards on... but this time - I managed to restart the car while it was still in motion.

What is it?! help :(

If it helps... It's an 2005 Altea. 2.0 FSi Tiptronic. Only has 25K on the clock.

sorry for the essay :(

Any idea's at all?

Cheers dave...

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with vagcom... I'm not prepared to spend £££ on a cable I'll only use once. (yes, there's cheap 3rd party ones... but why risk my car + my laptop :) )

Anyway, I've contacted my local seat... hopefully they can sort something out and not charge a fortune!

In Hull...

Spoke to a few garages.... they want us to pay £60 + vat to run a diagnostic.

Does vagcom run diagnostics like garages? The cables around £100 isn't it?

Near Richmond, North Yorks
Yep, VCDS as it's now known is a dealer tool emulation kit. Does exactly what the dealers machine does. Costs a bit more than £100 though. Mine cost me about £130 on a good discount from a group buy a year or so ago on another forum. It's just for the CanBus enabled cars so no Mk1 Leons etc.

I have one here if you fancy a ride out up to Richmond. Maybe a bit far, eh? :D

lol. Cheers for the offer!

Spoke to 'Autotechnica' though... they do the revo software.

They only charge £25.... Taking it in on monday - may even get the free 5 hour trial :D

It's the Tiptronic version.

Hopefully they'll pin point it on monday... fingers crossed it won't cost too much.

:update:

Took it in... ran some tests, although they found some minor electrical problems... they didn't find the cause if it cutting out.

Reckon a new ignition switch might fix it... but not 100% sure.

I'm going to the leave the car with them for a full day later in week to see if they can get the car to cut out again... (It doesn't do it all the time..) did it twice today in 5 mins... but not again.

If anyone has any other ideas.... any info would be much appreciated.
