Hi there,

Just thought I'd say hello - yes another newbie here dipping my toe into the world of Seat.

We're expecting our first, so had to get rid of the mrs' 3 door Corsa, (thank god), our new car had to be a bit left field / interesting, but it would also need to take all the associated junk that you must carry about with a new born, so yesterday I became the proud owner of a Seat Altea FR 2.0tfsi DSG. . . . . and after looking here / searching, it feels like I'm the only one!!!!

Only had 34k on the clock, but was a finance repo, so had a bit of neglect over the past few months, but the money was right, i got the all clear from an independent AA type engineer, and the dealer fixed all problems I outlined to him..... Oil leak, turbo hose had become un attached during a test drive, and the hazard warning light had gone (new switch fitted).

She's in dire need of a service, (bit breathless at the top of the rev range, not just as punchy in the mid range) and I though best to get that done myself at a Seat garage, vs letting the selling dealership scrimp on genuine / better parts) so will get that sorted this week....

I'm assuming that the service (oil, plugs and filters) should clear these (I think) small issues, but as I'm not techy, I'm happy to hear what else you think I should do, to bring her back to glory!

Hope to help where I can with any advice, although it may only be wine related!!

Cheers,

Gordie

Hello and welcome

I have just sold my Altea (still in the family) but my actual car is a K04 2.0TFSI - they do have some small things to look for such as wear on the HPFP cam follower (£25ish and easy to fix) & the PCV if you have rough running or MPG issues.

An oil change with high grade oil will do no harm for sure.

The top end breathless is probably down to the K03 turbo. If concerned about running have it put on a rolling road to get an idea of the power curve.

Thanks Skard,

Will get it into the dealership and have it serviced - I imagine new sparks and air filter etc wouldn't hurt, then off to a local rolling road to check it out.

If power curve is wobbly, does that mean a new turbo - or can they be rebuilt?

Cheers,

Gordon

A decent tuner will be able to look at the curve and see whether it is a boosting or fuelling issue etc. Having had a turbo hose come off won't have done it any good.

I actually forgot to mention the main reason that it probably feels a bit flat - the Diverter Valve.
This may have a rupture in it so it does not hold boost, this is a very common issue and many people have a new car feeling after replacing it.
The latest part number is the G revision, it'd need physically checked though. Worth replacing if you do not have a G version now.
(Do a search for 'K03 DV' and you'll see what I mean).

Not at all, there is a wealth of info on your engine out there (Golf GTI mk5, Leon FR, Octavia vRS, Audi A3 etc) if looking for a specific issue.
All cars have a few niggles to sort out when you get them used, won't take long for you to be happy with how it runs.
