Good day everyone.

Long time since I posted anything on a forum, so hey.. Hope everyone is good.
I'm a happy owner of a Seat Leon MK2 1.4 TSI (2010) for the past 2 years and I gotta admit that I loved the car from its birth, when back at 2005 my best mate bought one MK2 1.6L.
Although its a great car, I can't say it didn't come with its problems. As you may have guessed, I bought it second hand and the previous owner wasn't a great driver or car savvy in general. Apart the required services and taken care of minor issues, I had a couple major problems.
First problem was the water pump, which I knew was failing before I bought it (got extra discount on the car for that), but around 6 months later I had the dreaded timing chain problems that unfortunately many TSI engines suffer. Well, fixed that and for over a year the car ran smoothly, up to about a month ago that I started hearing a "whizzing" sound when I was pressing the throttle, while the car was rolling. with no other effect on how the car drives.
Long story short, I have a failing ball bearing at the differential, which I need to address by reconditioning my gearbox. A VW group gearbox specialist I spoke to, told me that certain models have specific issues that are recurring, my particular one, being a couple bearings in the gearbox along with the 2nd gear cog.

At the end of the month, (summer vacations for everyone here in Greece), I will refurb my gearbox and get rid of the problem. Is what the guy told me true? Does the 1.4L TSI engine suffer from gearbox problems, or can I blame the previous owner of the car, for mishandling the gearbox and the car in general?

Thanks in advance and hello again!

Welcome to the Forum,

How do you find the power of the 1.4? You had it remapped or any mods done since you bought the car?

To get you the best help I would post this issue in the MK2 section here - https://forums.seatcupra.net/index.php?forums/leon-mk2.136/ that way you can get the most traffic from people with the same car/engine.

Hope you get it all sorted soon, you'll have to post some pictures of your car when you get enough posts

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome!

The power feels normal, no observable difference, just an annoying whizzing sound when pressing the throttle with 3rd gear and above, like an electric motor running (think my car turned to hybrid :p ). No remmaping or mods whatsoever, apart some led headlights and interior, which were installed after the problem occured.
Thanks for the redirection, I will create a thread there.

Cheers!
