aside from the jabba/neuspeed shields that come as part of the kits (cant say id really think they are that great.......but) it could be a diy job or get something fabricated yourself.

failing everything else, get the card board and tin foil out mate!

According to Forge they believe that a heat sheild is not needed. Thinking about it there is probably cold air coming into the engine compartment when driving it would only be at standstill you'd be sucking in loads of warm air

ok cheers rikh but my blue peter days are over lol

i'll have to look at b&q then as i do want to, i know what junior is saying but heat off of the engine still gets sucked into the filter imagine it like a fire and that would get sweeped into the filter when driving along.

will have to make one then god this will look bad lol

I have jabba induction kit and it came with stainless heatshield that totally incloses filter,(the bonet closes onto top of heatsheild too),i can tell you they definately work 100%,after ive been out driving ive popped bonnet and heatshied is warm/hot yet air filter is stone cold,no warm air gets any were near filter,if you run without heatshield you will suck in warm air, there is alot of heat in that engine bay, especially down back side of engine were turbo runs.

I don’t think a heat shield is all that necessary to be honest. What do a couple of degrees matter when the air is going to be super heated on passing through your turbo. I think the only thing that’s going to change your intake temps is your intercooler and you’ve got a dam fine one moff. lol

Well i got the whole kit which was around the £200 mark, that might of been the fitted price. Give them a call tomorrow, I’m sure they could supply just the shield for much less.

How does cold air reach the filter with that type of design - I can see why they are important but that looks as though, if anything, it's restricting the air flow!?!

It uses the original cold air feed, it’s up to you if you want to upgrade it.

Would that be the plastic pipe running up the side of the battery?

Now you say it I can kinda work it out ;)

This is something I have been planning to do but have been left feeling unsure which is better - smoothed air box with filter or cone filter?

I'm sure this is convered in the search but I'm feeling lazy

Yep, that’s the pipe! I’m planning to upgrade it when this cold air duct group buy happens. I wouldn’t know what’s best; I really don’t think there’s much in it. I like the sound of the turbo spooling up so I got the jabba kit I like the look of it too. :D

If its of any use I was in exactly same situation,i had green panel filter fitted in standard air box which was good, but ive fitted jabba induction kit and it is better,i noticed a better pick up and it now pulls hard all way to rev limiter were before it would start to struggle at top end with panel filter almost as if it was needing more air, with induction kit ive also got lots of good sounds (induction/dump valve) as a bonus and improved air flow.
