Headlight Switch Fault

Howdy,

Has anyone else had a problem with the headlight switch. I've lost my side lights front and back on the left hand side (circuit 58L). Fuse ok, all three bulbs fine but no power coming out of the switch. Checked the circuit diagrams that I have and traced it to a switch fault (i.e. input feed ok and right hand side output is okay. Currently having to bypass the switch to get all the lights working and as I'm commuting in the dark I need to get it fixed.

The car is 3 weeks out of warranty so you can guess what the dealer said when I asked about a fix! Anyway, a new switch is 70 notes from the dealer. Does anyone know where I might be able to get one cheaper? I've just sent a partfinder request and checked ebay, any other ideas???

Cheers dudes and dudettes!

mmm....I took it out and had a look at it but seems tricky to dismantle, I'll have a go tomorrow night but it seems quite well sealed and I'm concerned about knackering it. If it's possible to open up then I'll give it a go.

I never finished this thread off..!

Dismantled the switch, cleaned all the contacts and refitted. Problem solved temporarily. Check for voltage drop across the switch and it started to increase again on the suspect circuit. The contacts seem to have softened/annealed themselves from heat generated by the contact resistance.

Replaced the switch with a second hand one from a guy on Ebay. It's fine now.
