just a quick question, can you convert a non ajustable headlight to a ajustable one?
I have ajustable ones (beam hight) but have a cracked glass in one of them, someone is trying to sell me a standard one and says you can just swap the bits, is this so?
cheers and Merry Christmas :)

Im going to say no.

The adjustable motor arm ball slots into the headlight lens and moves the mirrored material in and out, the motor also half turns and seals into the rear of the headlight. In my experience replacing or removing the glass from the plastic body is more hassle than its worth due to the sealant joing the two halfs being sooooo strong. I doubt the non-adjustable lens (mirrored plastic) could accomodate the adjustable motor arm which allows it to be tilted/altered in height, and you would need a second half with a motor hole.

But i could be wrong.....

NOPE

I have tried also due to a cracked lense, all the insides are put in a the factory and then the lens and unit are glued together over lapping so you can even saw/hack away at the glue. Need a propper made unit if your bothered about keeping the adjustment.

ok I have now found out that yes you can, there is a blanking screw, turn this 90' and pop out the ball joint you can then refitt the motor and all done :)

So if you want to upgrade to motoristed headlight hight control, dead easy to do :)

So the light you purchased did not have the adjustable motor but had the hole and ball joint locator slot.

I guess the light was from a car that had them removed, i thought SEAT either had them or light were before the time of the adjustors so wouldnt even have the hole.

I guess they were a added luxury on a select few models. I had them on my 1.4 and didnt think there were many model below to not have them but have the light to accomodate a motor

Yeah, our Ibiza 1.9TDi hasn't got them fitted but the Vario 1.9TDi has, strange as the Ibiza has things like electic mirrors and front fogs where as the Vario doesn't?

Thread resurrection time :D

Is this the blanking plate? I've turned it to release it, but how to I get it out? Just pull hard? Also, how do I get the motor off the old headlight?

Thinking about it now, the motor unit probably unscrews from the unit in the same way as the blanking screw?

Yeh the motor unit unscrews but i haven't been able to unscrew the blanking screw thing. Have you managed to do yours yet? Is there a particular way to do it? In fact what tool did you use as i don't have an allen key big enough to fit into the hole lol.

Also did anyone find that the drivers side indicator doesn't 'fit' properly. Not sure why but the headlight tha i've replaced it wit is almost identical except for not having the adjusting mechanism.

I used a pair of mole grips to turn it through 60 degrees which unlocks it. Then you can see into the unit. It's attached via a ball and socket joint which has one end open. You can either push the ball to the side to release the blanking plate, or you can pull very hard, either worked. You'll need to be more careful if you want to remove the motor from your old headlights though - pushing the ball out of the socket is the best way.

Hope that helps.
