Headlight lense MELTING???!

First off I cannot believe the headlight lenses are plastic! What a bloody CRAP design!!

So not had my cupra long, but just seen the headlights have started to melt from what looks like the light output.... unsure if they are standard bulbs or not as ive not checked yet with this crappy weather.

Anybody else have this?

Really am shocked that they are plastic.....

Ouch that sounds bad. I had my Leon for 7 years and never seen any problems with the headlight units. I'd check the wattage of you bulbs or output of voltage of the power supply in case some voltage regulator has gone.

Yeah will check later, although unsure how to tell if they are none standard bulbs or not, look the same?!!

check the metal part of the bulb for wattage output on the bulb. alos could get an auto electrician to check output to bulbs with a test meter.

Headlights are usually 12v 55w

I would check you don't have excessive dirt and condensation on the light - if you run the standard lights with snow covering them it WILL melt the plastic if you have main beam on.

and plastic lenses are normal as cheaper to manufacture
i recall my old cars had them and even sure the gf mini has plastic

It is also a safety feature for the event of hitting a pedestrian, plastic much nocer to hit than a nice lump of glass, deforms much better. Something isn't right here, wattage or regulation of power to bulb. Get a multi-meter onto it and check the voltage and power comsumption.

I thought all cars had plastic headlights as a safety feature for pedestrians. Probably has 100w rally bulbs fitted like these http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=78
At least it doesn't have plastic wings like a Renault Clio
