Headlight Fault

Hi guys

First time poster here so sorry if im doing this wrong, i have tried searching the forums for this!

Had new set of front tyres installed yesterday and since then the dipped beams will not come on - i think this is coincidence though, cant see why tyre change would affect the headlights. One time last week the dipped beams didnt come on when i turned on the lights but switching the lights off and on again sorted it - not so lucky this time!

All the other lights inc main beams and sidelights, heaters, demisters etc still work and i have checked the bulbs and fuses and they are all fine.

I am thinking that the switch might be busted but before i go shelling out on a new one, i wondered if anyone had any ideas? I've heard it could also be the relay but dont really know much about it, can anyone explain how i could check this or where the relay is located?
Installing the new switch looks pretty straight forward, has anyone done this before?

Any help or ideas much appreciated!
Thanks

switch is a simple push out push in ..
You need to get your fingers to the back of the switch to release switch from the loom.

To remove the switch push the "bit you turn" in turn it to the right this then releases the holding pins, then the switch can be pulled forward, you might get enough loom to release the holding catches too.

Cheers for the advice and for clearing up the confusion about the relays

I got the switch out ok, now just waiting for the new one to be delivered. Had to get this from the stealers, GSF and europarts didnt stock it.

so annoying not being able to use the car after 4pm!

Right, just a quick update. Finally got hold of the headlamp switch from SEAT today, fitted it and all the lights now work. That switch seems to be a bit of a weak spot on the Leons and some other models. Can have a bit of fun with me new tyres on the empty evening roads now - just as the frosts kick in:( timing!
Just for info part no was 1M2941531L (front and rear fogs) cost me £60.

Thanks again for the help and advice guys.

OUCH!!!

Mine was faulty but it kept my front fogs on all the time, i found a s/h one thankfully.

Yeah spent the weekend trying to track down a s/h one but no luck. SEAT only sell the complete unit (headlamp switch, instrument light dimmer, headlamp angle adjust and trim) even though I only needed the main headlamp switch part as the other bits still work fine.

Yeah I just had this problem myself where the front fogs stay on when the headlights are on, I felt a proper chav driving round with them on till I realised a day later I could just take out the fuse - duh

Managed to get one on fleabay for £30 inc del and got it sorted. Fitting it is easy but its kinda tricky to remove the old one

Although gritty and determined, the switch was no match for the nutter with the screwdriver who knew it was all being replaced...

Lol it's easy to change push it in and turn a little then it pulls out, then you can release the connector pins and out it comes, see, should have asked ;)
