Head Unit tripping something?

Hi all

Just fitted a CDX-GT930UI

Have power going into it no problem as the motorized front works fine. Had tested it on another car and it powered up with everything working fine. However when I installed it into my MKII stylance, I have no display on the unit.

When driving home this afternoon, it suddenly randomly sprang to life for 5 mins and then suddenly died again all of a sudden as if it had tripped a fuse?? or something similar. I had a similar problem with a previous headset which I had (probably incorrectly with hindsight) assumed was a fault stereo and thus replaced it but am having similar issue with this one.

So I think its something in the car, does anyone have any ideas where to start if we work on the assumption that the head unit is fine (as mentioned tested in another car and works fine)??

Any help much appreciated!

thanks

Ok I've been trawling the forums and think it might be something to do with the Can Bus. I have the connects 2 model here although it says it provides switched ignition, it doesn't (maybe the can bus has become faulty? - can they go wrong )

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctsst001-canbus-steering-control-adaptor-p-6246.html

Saw some people were using a PC910-X73

but on a couple of fleabay pages it says you can't use it on Sony Head Units.... dammit!

any ideas or recommendations??

similar problem

not sure if this is the same problem but I have been having trouble with the my mk1 leon for the past couple of months. The stereo (aura unit with tape head and cd changer which had been working fine since I got the car a year ago) started asking for its code every few days, then started refusing to do anything for a few days, then sprang back to life and eventually refused to turn on at all. I replaced it with a 2nd hand unit which worked fine for 2 weeks but then started powering off and asking for the code whenever I used the cd player, although it was ok if I just used the radio. I returned that and got another one which worked fine the first time I turned it on and but since then has sat lifeless?

I am assuming that my car is either destroying these head units or just decided to stop giving them power? Does anyone know how to power these units manually on a bench? I found a thread on here with a connections diagram

(showthread.php?p=2420923) - won't let me type full link for some reason?

but the black connector in my car doesn't have any pins in the 12v and gnd positions shown although it can obviously work without them as it had been doing for ages? any ideas?

update: firstly realised that missing connections are 12v and telephone mute (not gnd) but should still be getting power from the switched ignition so is correct I believe. Secondly realised I probably posted in the wrong section so will move this to mk1 leon somewhere.

it just maybe the Sony is configured differently in the wiring , so you maybe swapping positive for negative when the 2 halfs connect.
you might need to switch a pin around.
there is a wiring diagram on the back of the SEAT unit , just match it up to the sony half and you will be fine.

Well not sure if it to do with it but was speaking to the boys in the workshop at my local seat dealer and they have had quite few leons in where the cables for the stereo and blowers have been rubbing on the framework behind the dash and then shorting out once through the insulation. Reason they are so fed up is because they have had to remove the dash to fix it and i know from personal experience that changing the dash on the mk2 leon is a right pain in the ar3e!!! Hope it helps mate
