Head unit issues - ignition & permanent correct...

Hi there all,

I just fitted a Sony CDX-GT300 (I know, I know, Sony are crap - but I have limited budget and it has all the features I want, particularly the front aux port) and I'm having a few issues with the memory.

I know what you're thinking - "he needs to switch the ignition and permanent 12v wires around and it'll work", well unfortunately it doesn't...

I bought an adaptor loom from Halfords and then found that the Sony is designed so that you can switch the ignition & permanent 12V wires around - it even has special connectors for it. I tested the SEAT ISO block with a multimeter and verified that the correct wires were going to the correct places. If I put the old Alana unit back in it works fine and turns on with the key out. If I use the adaptor and then put the Alana in the expected result occurs (ie, no power with key out of the ignition). I can't reproduce these effects with the Sony HU although there IS power to the CD drive on the unit when the key is out. I turned the car on this morning and all the presets were gone but it was defo wired up correctly.

Mucho mucho confused.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated as this is driving me mad... :(

There are two wires you need to swap round

On my Pioneer its a red and yellow one.....

Swap them so that the red goes to yellow and yellow to red....

That keeps the permenet cureent for settings.....should also detail in the hand book

Andy - tried that - it does't work. I measured the voltage output an' all, the wire which claims to be constant has 12V coming through it with the key out of the ignition but the radio still doesn't turn on. Maybe it's a security feature of Sony radios...

CDX-GT300 - the manual wasn't much help though - just tells you to switch the wires round ;)

Cheers - problem solved I think. Swapped HU and loom with Halfords, new head unit still doesn't turn on without the key but it does remember settings. Reckon I was unlucky enough to have a duff HU/loom AND Sony radios just don't turn on without a key - weird...
