Hard for break lights

Hi all.

Has anyone got/noticed this problem?

On my Leon FR the break lights dont light up whilst breaking until about half way down on the peadle. So i can be breaking slightly/slowly without my lights coming on. I have not noticed this on any other car and am worried someone will not see me breaking one day. Is this normal for the break lights be be less sensitive?

Your brake light switch located at the pedal is knackered. Common problem, usually replaced under warranty with a modified part. I don't think it is expensive if you have to do it yourself. My dealer changed it while I waited for 15 minutes.

I've a feeling mine isn't as sensitive as it should be. It does work, but very light braking doesn't seem to be making the lights come on.
Has anyone got a pic of the switch and a rough guide of how it "snaps into place" so i can have a look at it myself?
Cheers

i get this too, i can't push the pedal enough to slow down a noticable amount, but it will hold on a slight hill without the lights coming on.

Looks like a dealer visit may be needed before it gets worse.

Yep, get this too in my car. In traffic I can bring my car to a complete stop without the brake lights coming on!! I tend to give the brakes a good hard jab to make sure the lights come on and to make sure that the person in the BMW who is an inch from my rear bumper realises its also time to stop! Not that I am saying that all BMW drivers are like this! Merc Drivers are usually just as bad :D

The first day i had my other halfs bezzer FR (we had only had the car 3 days) a blue punto nearly rear ended me.........he jumped out at the lights to let me know brake lights not showing (was a very nice chap)........had to temporarily amend my driving style.
back home safely, the better half played with some switch under the peddle.....Sorted!

I had this problem too. I only noticed it a few weeks ago so dont know how long it had been faulty for.

I had my car serviced yesterday and the brake light switch was found to be faulty and replaced under warranty

just had mine in to the dealer, noticed my brake lights werent working, they said it was the switch, told me it was a common problem, think the part has cost me about 30 quid fitted, will find out tomorrow when i pick the car up. Its in for the other common problem water leak told its all 4 doors so will be around 300 quid :(
