Handy with vag-com any one?

Got a airbag light stuck on because I had the glove box out to run some wires well to cut to the chase, all I need to do is reset my airbag controller but I can seem to get the vag-com the connect! It says that the controller is not responding. Help please.

There seems to be a debate on whether you should use Vag-Com to do anything with the airbag light. From what people have said, even just testing the modules "could" set the airbags off, which "Could" go off in your face and kill you. Ok so a little dramatic, but enough for me take mine to the dealers to get the light turned off .

mine did it free under warranty, I think they charge 30 quid ish otherwise

there must be a problem if the airbag light stays on? it shouldnt need resetting as if whatever was causing the fault, say an unplugged connection was corrected the light would go off.

My advice would be to look why the light is on, there must be a problem somewhere

it only came on after i took the glove box out and started the engine then connected what I unplugged and it never went off?

may have missed some thing will have to look again.

Not true of the airbag system. Any fault will completely disable the airbag system in the car until reset. It's a safety feature to prevent the airbags being re-enabled automatically when there could be a fault which could cause the system to b triggered.

If you unplug the wire behind the glovebox and then put the key in the ignition before reconnecting then the airbags will all be disabled and stay that way until reset.

If you turned the ignition on with the airbag on/off switch (i.e. the one in the glovebox) unplugged, you will get an error.

You can safely reset this error with vag-com.

Hi,

I did exactly the same thing on Wednesday in my LCR..

Glove box out to fit an iPod/Connects2 in - disconnected the cable to the airbag switch so I could get the glovebox out of the way.

With the glovebox out, put the ignition on a couple of times to test my hidden power socket.

Put it all back together and got the airbag light when I drove off - thought it was a bad connection so stripped it out to ckeck and it was all OK.

Phoned a dealer who wanted £30 to reset the light - but called Badger5 and went round his house - 5mins on the Vag-Com - light gone.

The error code was 'intermittent power in passenger airbag switch' - makes sense.

Find someone with a Vag-Com and away you go.

Normally with the Airbag system I would go to the dealer, but knowing that I disconnected something that controls it and after searching on here - seemed worth it.

Vag com will reset my airbag light sometimes, others it won't. I just keep trying untill it works.

I get it when I pull the instrument cluster fuse to use lemmiwinks.
