Handbrake light wont go out

Ok, so I had a small fire in my engine bay after the earth lead to the ignition coil got worn through and shorted. Now after offending wiring has been replaced, my handbrake warning light will not go out.

Any guesses??

You sure its related to the fire, it may just be a coincidence. My wifes 306 started doing this recently and it was the switch under the handbrake lever, the plunger had popped out due to excessive lever travel. Couldnt find it anywhere, guess she hoovered it up, so trimmed a rawl plug to length, popped it into the switch housing and adjusted lever - been fine since.

cheers for the quick replies. If its a coincidence, i'd be amazed... too many damn coincidences this week, the fire occured at the garage where the car had been put coz the bloody cambelt snapped! it just decided to burn through when i tried to start it after the new belt had been fitted and the pistons/valves checked (on that note, i thing there might be some damage to the pistons after all, got a flat spot on acceeleration between 1200 and 2000 RPM, but that can wait!)

Will check the brakes and fluid.
