Finally got my car on the road on monday, driving home from work today and got a empty bit of road, gave it some in 2nd and 3rd FOR THE FIRST TIME, and clatter.....checked when i got home and one of the bolts holding on the D/P is missing.

What can be used to hold these on? I have been told about drilling and wire-thread locking the bolts, but I don't know the first thing about this.

Its 4 bolts and 1 stud and nut holding on the d/p. Would changing to all studs and nuts make any difference?

Cheers, Scott.

Have you got O/E engine mounts as it sounds like the engine movement ( lurching forword ) has pulled off your down pipe.

Backdraft, same as Alex, He has wire-locked his bolts, but I don't know the first thing about that. I'm only running actuator pressure at the mo till i get apexi avcr aswell, so who knows whats going to happen with real boost/heat.

p.s. will be doing my build thread soon.

I had a backdraft kit and my downpipe would not stay on, got so feed up with it blowing that I removed the lot and start again . I did get correct studs, nuts and tap over.washers from Owens and that sorted it , but lost all love of the kit. Good luck with it (you will need it)

Cheers Sam (as always)! Yours only came off as it was not lock wired. All kits we fit are lock wired since yours. We live and learn eh! Some companies do even get around to fitting all the bolts/nuts or even fitting water pipes the correct way :(. Im glad you are happy now, even though you still need to go on about the past.

Scott, i can drill 4 bolts for you and supply a length of lockwire. I can explain on the phone what you need to do to fit it all. Once the lock wiring is done you shouldnt have any problems again. Ive never had any bolts or nuts come loose with lock wire. Can you PM me a pic of your downpipe please. I would like to know how its been done so i can give the best advise.

Cheers, Alex

Its hardly this kit thats at fault, just needs better/different nuts or bolts.

Anyway, I will send you that pic Alex if you can help.

Cheers.

as I said good luck , I don't like the kit but that's my point of view.
As other people have said "sometimes you have to cut your loses and change direction"
My car is now a completly different beast! .
It important to state backdraft never fitted my kit, but Alex did when he was at tt shop.
If backdraft value there reputation they shouls sort for you , please let us know if they do
Good luck again !

I also need to state that we supplied a base kit and not a full kit with our downpipe. Just the turbo and manifold. The downpipe has been made by a different company who supplied their own nuts and bolts.

With our downpipe it is possible to fit allen key bolts which are drilled to accept lock wire. After seeing the pics, i believe that with Scott's downpipe it would be best to fit studs all round with square washers that can be bent over the nuts. This will stop them ever coming loose.

Yes i did fit your kit Sam, and the issue was the bolts coming loose. We did since then use lockwire, but you never came back to the tt shop or backdraft to get the lockwire fitted.

well Alex , don't talk sh!t , I bought one full kit at 4500 ,had it fitted by you Alex( backdraft approved fitment centre)

After falling apart constantly I took it elsewhere to have it fitted and mark at backfdraft agreed to overlook the installation , I sold my 2.5 inch downpipe and 2860 and purchased a new 2871 , charge pipe (due to old one have dv off and poor fitment) and 3 inch downpipe from backdraft ( which aps ceramic coated ) . So this WAS a full backdraft kit . Backdraft are trying to disown kit but every part came from them! At great expence !

I am now over the money thing now and learnt from past experiences .
Now moved on to different level and proformance .

Ill chime into this thread ;)

Heres the pic of Sams old backdraft kit, so cleary is Backdraft downpipe, but ceramic coated.... But surely thats a bad thing to get it ceramic coated, or any other part, it isnt recomended by Garrett at all is it.:rolleyes:

In case anyone else managed to mis-read my comment as badly as Sam has, I was referring to Scotts kit being a base kit, therefore, clearly not having a backdraft d/p fitted!!
Sam's car did come back to TT Shop to have the problem rectified, however, this was before the lock-wire installation was introduced.

Backdraft Kits are not to blame for any of the issues raised in this thread. The only issue was not using lock-wire on the first couple of kits, which has now been resolved at all Backdraft approved fitment centres!!

Scott, hope my PM helped? Did you get the E-Clip ok? Let me know if you need anything else. As always, we are more than happy to help. And as Hoochy says, Nord-lock stuff is good.

Cheers, Alex

Alex, PM was of help yes. Got the clip ok, thanks a lot.

Just want to say I don't have any other problems with the backdraft turbo kit, I think its great and the fitment was a first time fit, and I am no trained technician and have never swapped a turbo setup before.

Could I use nordlock washers, or is studs and nuts a better solution?

Cheers, Scott.

P.S. I have a turbo back custom exhaust.

g12mo x. you seem to be making a hell of alot of fuss over a couple of bolts that came loose. seems like you are trying to make as much fuss as possible over a minor issue.

if your expecting a trouble free BT kit then it aint gong to happen. BT= issues. and i should know

you should always plan for things to rattle loose and a few things to melt. ive been having my driveshaft bolts coming loose a few times on my current set up :S

no one does but an under bonnet inspection should be made regular on tuned cars, just to seen how things are coping
