Grrr... No allocation

Grrr... Lloyds/TSB CarSelect are saying that none of their dealers have any allocation for a Cupra before next year!! That is just ridiculous! How can SEAT have got the number sooooooo wrong that the dealers can't get any for 6 months!

I'd heard similar from the dealer that sold me mine.

He reckoned about 3 weeks ago that the soonest you could get built one was build week 49.

They also said that SEAT is limiting the numbers each so that it retains exclusivity.

Unfortunately, the wait has totally turned me off the new Leon. After having a MK1 and Ibiza Cupra Sport in the past, it's sad that I'm probably not going to own another one. I'm looking at the Nissan 350Z now :)

SEAT will sell as many of the cars as they can (this is from SEAT directly)

However, there will be build slots (so they will build cupra's 1 week in 6 for example)

Test drove a 350Z yesterday and sorry to say I'm going to have to buy one! Handling is out of this world and certainly in a different league to that of the Leon Cupra I test drove (although to call it a test drive is a joke). It also shows that some dealers have stupid test drive policies. King's in Sidcup would not let myself and the girlfriend take the car out on our own. Despite the fact that I turned up in a £75k Range Rover! They can offer a 24hour hire, which is fine apparently because the money is refunded if you buy the car! It's a fecking test drive I want, not a hire! King's are saying it's their insurance. I say it's purely a function of how much they are prepared to pay for that insurance!! If a dealer can't even arrange insurance to allow non accompanied test drives then, frankly, I'm not interested in buying from that dealer. What's even worse was that the accompanied test drive had to be on a prescribed route. WHAT! So we couldn't even test it on roads we know well.

Turn up at Nissan dealer, arrange test drive, they take £1000 insurance excess and send us both off in the 350Z on our own, refund the money when car is returned. THAT is what I would the SEAT dealers should be like! 3 hours we spent in the 350Z and it _totally_ sold it for us. Order has been placed already. SEAT's loss.

My local dealer seems much better. (SMC Windsor)

Took a Leon FR DSG out for a 24 hour test drive and just have to give them my credit card details to cover the £250 excess on their insurance.

Might have to check if they'll do the same thing for a Cupra, although I think I'd actually prefer DSG to the extra power.

personally i cant see having one of them in the car is a major issue.

however, if you pranged the nissan im sure you would be arguing that £1000 excess is too much!

incidentally, how does the cost of the nissan compare to the leon cupra?

actually its just short of £27,000 and just over £29,000 with the gt pack. Therefore its not really a comparison.

hope the nissan does you well, from what ive heard the service is very good.

yeah there might be a 10k difference between them, but its a fair comparison if you like both cars enough to see yourself buying and owning one. its personal choice at the end of the day, and if can afford either then thats a bit of a bonus!!

no shame in that really, the Cupra loosing out to a 350z...talk about having to make some tough decisions in life ;)

should be the converse and a success that they were both on the shorlist! i think the stealers blew it at the end of the day cos it does make you think of the aftersevice if thats them trying their hardest to get your custom and the money out of your wallet!

I think it's completely different being in the market for a second 'fun' car. Basically the car is for my girlfriend (it's replacing a Ford Ka - bit of a step up). Neither of us really need the car so we have the luxury of choosing what we want carefully. We've ummed and ahhed about this a fair bit and I wasn't even considering the 350Z until someone on a mailing list I'm on suggested we give it a go.

After the bad experience with King's Sidcup (nothing to do with the salesman, he was a really nice guy, just the dealership's totally inflexible test drive policies) I simply wouldn't even entertain the idea of buying a car from them. It's also quite important that the dealer is local to us. I've had a few fairly unusual vehicles that needed specialist attention and I got fed up of travelling miles just to get decent service and expertise. The Nissan (Ancaster Penge) experience was pleasant, straighforward and no messing. How it should be! It has the advantage of only being 2 miles from us in Beckenham.

It seems very difficult to get good dealer service from Seat these days. As I mentioned I have had 2 Seats in the past. An 8V Ibiza Cupra Sport (my first brand new car) from a dealer in Watford (they were okay) and a Mk1 20VT 1.8 Leon Cupra from a dealer in Warminster (who were excellent), now sadly gone! Why is that? Are the margins so low on these things that they are basically just a sausage machine?
