Grinding when braking and turning left

Hi,

have a grinding or scraping noise when braking and turning left,
also a squeak from the right side somewhere but i think this may be suspension related.

It only started happening after i hit a kerb in the snow and bent the wishbone, it was replaced the next day.
after my MOT before the kerb incident i was advised about the bushes wearing, but this can only be one sided now Drivers side. My tracking is off a mile sice i also hit the kerb and will probably need all 4 wheels aligned.

So does anyone have any ideas, about the scraping and turning Passenger Side or my elusive Drivers side Squeak.

Thanks

Hi I would take a very good look to make sure you havent bent or broken anything else, eg the strut, brake caliper mount, track rod, cv joint, driveshaft etc

everything was checked by a mechanic to assess the damage prior to changing the wishbone.

To my knowledge, on standard suspension you can't have 4 wheel adjustment on the Mk4 as the rears don't have any adjustment.
Just in case a garage charge you full whack for this when it can't be done! Front end only.

Had somthing similar in mine, have you checked the wheel bearing hasnt started to come out of the hub? There pressed in then retained with a clip, if its had a good whack it could be partly back out of the hub allowing something to come in contact with the disc.

(i only know this as my car recently started with the same symptons as you mention, when i stripped it down the wheel bearing wasnt fully in the hub! it had just had that bearing replaced before i bought the car and the garage hadnt fitted it properly allowing it to work back out of the hub)

will need to take a look in the better weather, its needing the timing belt done soon so wheel bearings might need to wait.

thanks

I have a drivers side squeak too! Have a look at the anti roll bar on the drivers side. Mine rubs the aluminium bracket that holds the wishbone in, you can see it looks shiny.
That started soon after my bushes went and tracking was out, think i hit something too and its shifted the bar across.
As for the grinding, sounds like a CV joint or bearing. Mechanic also wouldnt be able to see this when inspecting it.

No offence but your timing belt isnt grinding or in contact with the road at high speed, and if it did fail your wheel hub wont collapse and jam your wheel, might be worth re thinking your priorities?

Guys,

I just had a similar problem in mine - sorted last week.

My brake discs were shot at - big time - which i knew they were bad but not that bad! £300 quid later for a new set of AP Racing's finest and the car sounds good as new!

id still rather replace the timing belt, its a slight grinding and a squeak and the car is 4 years old dont think that the hub will collapse thats worst case scenario.

Thanks for all the replies, will get someone to look at it. Seems an easier option than hit and miss repairing.

Thanks though.
